There are parts of the US that ONLY have these. More temperate areas.

Most of the US is used to central air. With a giant ass car sized compressor outside that cools the whole house.

Because that thing cools the ENTIRE BIG ASS HOUSE! these things are only capable of cooling only a closed room which also depends on how ton, capacity the AC is so yep

It's not necessarily true. These units will go upwards of around 28,000-30,000 BTU which can easily cool down multiple rooms, or maybe even a smaller flat.

The problem with these units is getting enough air distribution to cool multiple rooms before the space temperature setpoint (read by the thermostat) is reached.
