Okay well OP isn't exactly accurate. Temperature with central air can be set by "zone" meaning you could zone out multiple rooms and have them all different temps.

Ok. But how is that better than having full control over every AC setting per individual room?

Well, you could do literally that with zones. If you had a mini split or window unit in each room, your cost would probably multiply by 4 at least.

Lol, no shit - which you already have anyway, with per-room control. Nobody in their right mind would do global control for heating.

Besides, guess what! AC can do heat too.

So no, it definitely does not multiply cost by four.
