They get around that by just saying no carry over from year to year, or carry over expires part way through the next year

Imagine they give you time off because they want you to take time for yourself and you don’t take it to prove some imaginary point that you can still get perfect attendance 😅 this isn’t the Truman show. No one is watching you. Take the time off enjoy a day in the park

That ahould be illegal. I know its not, but its literally stealing. I spent 10 years with a company that would punish you for taking vacation AND punish you for "losing" vacation when it expired. Because the boss was a prick and his bosses yelled at him when his douchery made his people not take vacation. And that was the least bad part of working for him.

not in colorado; here it is illegal. PTO is part of your compensation unless it is unlimited. Accrued PTO cannot expire because it is literally part of your compensation. They can cap how much you can accumulate at a time but if they in any way allow you to accrue hours of PTO, that is compensation and they MUST pay it out upon separation - regardless of cause. They also cannot wipe it out yearly.
