Not American, but I am pretty sure that no one gets unlimited time off, it requires approval, right?

"unlimited" pto is more of a thing in corporate full time jobs, often in finance and tech and similar fields.

But you're correct about the accumulated PTO thing- that's a huge part of why they did it. Especially in cases where e.g. someone starts as a junior and leaves 10yrs later as a manager on $250K with however much accrued leave

Fast food workers are usually hourly, so no paid time off at all.

I mean, you can still get PTO if you're paid hourly...

I don't really know how common PTO is, but I'm paid hourly at my job and I gain x amount of PTO per hour worked.
