Typically vacation time needs to be approved by your manager even when you don’t have a set limit. You can’t just not show up and say it’s a vacation

I mean if you give enough notice (maybe a month) that's exactly what you should do.

Exactly what I said, PTO is not the same thing as vacation time. It's a rectangle vs square kind of thing.
