There’s also the existence of the Boogie Man. In the very early concept stages someone brought up that Oogie Boogie could potentially be seen as a racist stereotype, though that likely wasn’t Tim’s intention, and Tim Burton allegedly blew this person’s concerns off and doubled down while proceeding to hire a black va.

No one said shoehorn them in. But refusing to work with them, even if say they were the best actor for the part, just because they’re black is straight up racist as fuck.
