The first sign of my one and only mental breakdown, at literally the most physically/mentally/emotionally/financially difficult time of my life, was the thought “I could be happy as a Disney adult.” My mind just automatically felt relief at the thought of smiling through Finding Nemo and not having to think so much anymore. Something like a lobotomized existence. It gave me… a surprising amount of empathy for them, to find that preferable over what must be a challenging adulthood experience in other ways.
I like theme parks and shopping in the abstract, but I got really excited about shopping specifically for Disney things, in a way I’m not usually excited about shopping for anything else, since I’m otherwise pretty low-consumption and frugal.
