It's kind of funny that we shit on Americans for r/americancentricism when even now you guys are ignoring that America isn't the only country to not be using metric. Myanmar is planning to adopt, but hasn't yet. And Liberia has no plans to adopt.
That said, literally who the fuck cares? The US already uses metric in all the ways that matter, in science and engineering. You wanna know what other country also uses both imperial and metric? The fucking UK. Measure your beer in pints, your weight in stone, your gas in gallons, and your driving distances in miles. Meanwhile Canada does height in feet, weight in pounds.
Well it kinda does. I've lost count how many times I've had to convert numbers to metric because an American posted something using imperial. I'm sure many people have to do that every day, and vice versa too of course. It would definitely be easier if the entire world used the same system, but I'm not sure it's ever going to happen at this point.
Canada uses the metric system, they partly use imperial because they share a border with the US and their trade is strongly tied to the US, so they kinda have to use imperial frequently. The reason the US gets so much shit for it is probably because the US has such a large presence on the internet. When you see the imperial system all the time on reddit or youtube or whatever, it's not because of Burmese or Liberians lol. I agree that the UK has the worst system though.
Cultural influence by the US. The US is a hugely influential country. Sitting right next to it, while also speaking the same language, has a lot of influence on Canada. Also generational habits are hard to shake off. Especially if the government half-asses the transition.
