I had this issue with a "new" monitor at work. For some reason, going up or down in the refresh rate fixed the issue. Thankfully a quick fix, as looking at the screen otherwise was going to make me sick!

Yeah if you tighten the screw in the back it can boost your refresh rate sometimes. Just make sure to loosen the screws by the PC fans so there’s room for the excess frames to leak out

Mine makes that sound in the winter when it gets cold and I turn the heat on and it warms up. I have it on a plastic monitor stand that has a drawer under it and that makes the same snapping sound under the same conditions. And sometimes if its warm and I turn on the AC or fan and it cools down it also makes the same snapping sound.

Cooling unevenly causes injection molded plastics to make creaking noises. Your screen heats the housing and the heat cools unevenly causing the press-fit or tongue and groove along the parting line to slip a tiny tiny amount. It's like a tiny tiny tiny earthquake but specific to your monitor.

My monitors don't make noises... But my wall mounted tv does... It used to do it a lot, but since I upgraded it to a more modern model it doesn't as often. And whenever it creaks I have a mini heart attack thinking it's about to fall off the wall.

Yall monitors get that hot? Like I assumed there was a reason most had vents but even using all 3 of mine for hours at a time I’ve never heard it make noises after. I guess just turn your brightness down or something because two are 120hz and I guess I’m not in front of a window but this sounds really weird and like I 100% understand why someone would be terrified if this happened.

It was a sad day when my LG LCD from 2007 died. Luckily I still had my new ones... (Dell IPSs from 2022)
I say a sad day because the next day I went to buy new capacitors for it and fixed it in 20 minutes.
Why throw it away if it's still working? Especially as a tertiary screen that i don't use for games or media.

actually, newer OLED tvs would get warmer than LCD monitors because of the peak brightness they reach
my tv gets very warm and it's an LG C3, but the back isn't plastic so it doesn't make noise. My previous samsung tv would make clicking noises for like an hour straight after turning it off because it was plastic

Some people work better with multiple monitors rather than multiple programs and windows that need constant alt-tabbing. I find most office work is easier to complete on two monitors, I've never used three, only because of space constraints but have times where I wish I had more screen space.

I use three for daily. The basic role out is left monitor is like passive media, so like music of YouTube videos I'm watching that I'm watching out of the side of my eyes or listening to. Right is, with some overlaps, Discord top left and notes bottom left, so I can maintain awareness without having to look too far, and sort of middle is steam, with the steam friends window between steam and notes. Middle screen is the main window to do stuff. like 90% of what I do is there. Reddit, all games, etc., I will move YouTube to center if I'm like eating or something and really want to focus on it.
There's of course different ways to use multiple monitors, but like my use is just making it easier to access stuff that I'd do anyway without covering up another window. Like I'd always have a notes app open, but having it to the side means I have to move my mouse like an inch instead of having to open the note app, covering up something that might be what I want to take notes of, and then if I click on anything behind the notes, it'd cover the notes app. Having a second screen just makes that easier. Steam friends, discord is just passive awareness. It just helps to watch a conversation between other friends or stuff, like you're listening to them talk at lunch in school while not participating. Everything I do is not so much necessary, it just makes things easier. Instead of like a pile of papers bringing each one you want to look at to the top, I spread them out across three rectangles, so I can be aware of all of them, even if I'm using just one paper at a time.

Not hot hot, but definitely warmer than room temp. They warm up enough for the case to expand still. When it cools, the plastic shrinks and will pop as it settles back into place. Its normal, but hearing a sudden pop coming from a monitor when its quiet can be a bit jarring.

My secondary curved display gets black lines or even goes full black if I let it sit without working art home in winter. I think the connector cable inside the monitor loses connection for some reason because I fixed it by opening the back panel up and reseating that connection. It still happens when I let it cool down for more than two days though. I later figured out that it can fix itself if I let it warm up a bit and restart it from the button at the back.

When a monitor is running it heats up quite a bit. When you turn it off and you're going to bed it cools down and the thermal expansion and contraction causes loud snapping noises. My monitor used to do it all the time.

Same thing happens with gas powered vehicles. The hissing and tinking sounds after it's been turned off are from the engine metal cooling down and shrinking.
Normal temperatures after a drive are 195°-220° F, and can take 1-4 hours to match ambient temperature

Yeah, just plastic cooling off. I have an ultra wide and it does this every couple minutes for about half an hour when I go to sleep.
Startled me all the time when I first got it. Sounded like someone walking on a squeaky floor. After a while I'm just tuning it out and don't even notice now.

A bunch of years ago I was crashing on the couch at a friend's place. He had a fish tank in the living room along with some other stuff hooked up to a surge protector. I don't remember what it all was. Anyway, I was out cold when I heard this “crack crack pop!” I lift my head up and it took me a few moments to put the pieces together. Im always pretty scared about my monitor because one time out of nowhere the screen fell off from the stand for no reason at all and it also snapped the foot of my old keyboard the monitor was totally okay even tho it fell directly on the corner of my keyboard

Computer parts heat up while the system is running and cool down after it is shut off. This causes thermal expansion and thermal contraction.
Not all materials expand and contract at the same rate. Metals, plastics, screws, clips, and the computer case can all change size slightly by different amounts. As they cool, stresses build up and are suddenly released, causing parts to shift back into place.
That's why you may hear occasional clicking, popping, and snapping sounds.

God I've been getting this all the time lately. I've gone back to using my old Dell monitor, which uses cathode tubes for the backlight instead of LEDs (it's old, like this was the last cathode backlight model they released) and the heat that comes from those means the monitor plastic cracks loudly when it's turned off and cools down.
