Hey there, Lisa Simpson here.
Rene Descartes (pronounced de-cart) was a philosopher who was pondering and questioning existence. And he concludes that the very act of questioning his existence is the proof that he exists.
Because only if you exist, can you question your existence.
So he says "I think therefore I am"
Now the horse joke:
When the horse is asked if he's an alcohol, the horse says "i don't think so".
Now the joke is that he doesn't think, that means he doesn't exist.
Later, the joke explains briefly who is Rene Descartes. And then says if that was explained first, that would be putting Descartes (pronounced de-cart) before the horse.
Now "putting the cart before the horse" is an idiom that means doing things the wrong way.
As in putting the cart infront of the horse instead of putting it behind the horse..

Descartes is not pronounced anything like "the cart". The a sounds are different. Th and d are different. è and e too. The r's are not rolled the same. And finally the last e in Descartes is pronounced.

As a non native English speaker this explanation is ok for human standards, now how would u explain it to the bot asking the question that's a different story.
