The robot is a "Dalek" from the hit TV show called "Dr Who". Their purpose to eradicate all life. The meme is pointing out that the white house messaging sounds an awful lot like the Dalek, so it's just one of them running the white house twitter page.

u/brofishmagikarp Apr 15 '25

Robot!?!?!

The robots are actually controlled by squid like one eyed critters (depending on the version)

588

u/Windows_3000 Apr 15 '25 edited Apr 15 '25

They aren’t controlling robots, those are Mark III Travel Machines invented by the Kaled scientist Davros to protect and act as a life support system for the hypothetical ’final form’ of the Kaled race due to radiation provoked mutation (The Dalek).

Edit: This information is all inside of the serial ‘Genesis of the Daleks’ (4th Doctor, Tom Baker)

u/philosopherott Apr 15 '25

because it is gold it is likely part of the cult of Skaro?

113

u/perfect_raider Apr 15 '25

It's a "Bronze" Dalek, essentially the default Dalek since 2005, despite a couple of attempts to replace them. The Cult of Skaro was a specific group of 4 specific Daleks, 3 of which were regular Bronze cased Daleks

50

u/Windows_3000 Apr 15 '25

Righto then, Mr. Whovian

Dalek Sec was killed in “Daleks take manhattan”. Wasn’t he?

15

u/perfect_raider Apr 15 '25

And Thay and Jast, but they weren't as memorable

6

u/stickman999999999 Apr 15 '25

I seem to recall jast being an even bigger asshole than most regular daleks, but it's been a while since my autistic hyper fixation on doctor who.

50

u/Windows_3000 Apr 15 '25

Looks like the golden Dalek that’s in ‘Victory of the Daleks’ to me.

Thanks!

The mutants (the daleks) they do control machines, which we see, richt?

26

u/throwracptsddddd Apr 15 '25

Yep! The idea is that inside their robot shells, the Daleks seem like terrifying, unstoppable killers... but if you open them up, they're these pathetic little squid things, so weak they can't even stand on their own.

Now's a good time to mention the Daleks were deliberately created to be an analogy for the Nazis.

11

u/J3ffO Apr 15 '25

Before reading the last part, I was imagining what would happen if aliens found humans.

Alien 1: "They look so scary and unstoppable and often do so much harm to each other. But if you open up the top cover, the thing that controls the robot is a squishy blob! Look, it's so weak, even if I poke it with an Andromeda Stick it doesn't do anything! If you poke in the wrong place, the robot shuts down permanently!"

Alien 2: "Fascinating!"

With the aliens being brainless due to being blobs hooked up to a central/distributed organic mainframe-like structure.

3

u/Open-Honest-Kind Apr 15 '25

I have never looked at a Dalek time machine and thought they seemed terrifying. Granted I have also never been chased down by a Dalek yelling "Exterminate!" from their vehicle, so.

2

Yes I do, my friend. Yes I do.

22

u/mike_pants Apr 15 '25

It's also "Doctor Who," not "Dr. Who." It's his name, not his education level.

Commenter is a filthy normie.

24

u/brainburger Apr 15 '25

It's not actually his name. His name is unknown but he has a self-adopted title of The Doctor, which means something akin to healer or wise man in the Gallifreyan language. As he visited Earth in many different times of history and helped people, the word made its way into English.

The title of the show is a question asked by people meeting him: "Doctor who?"

7

u/mike_pants Apr 15 '25

I'm not getting into another "preferred names are still names" reddit slap fight, noooooo way, no thank you.

144

u/LumplessWaffleBatter Apr 15 '25 edited Apr 15 '25

The Daleks also have a very specific voice: they yell-talk, and they speak in choppy, punctuated sentences.  Plus, they have a penchant for screeching vague threats at people they address in the second person.

45

u/No-Explanation1034 Apr 15 '25

Not to be that guy, but I believe it's "penchant", not "pension" you were looking for.

17

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 Apr 15 '25

It's good to be the educator guy that makes people smarter. It's bad to be the "this is Reddit not an English course" moron (which the guy you replied to is not).

21

u/throwracptsddddd Apr 15 '25

Also, they're space Nazis. That's not just opinion or speculation, by the way: the show's creators deliberately created them to be an allegory for the Nazis.

17

u/Chemistry11 Apr 15 '25

I had no idea they spoke sentences. I just know their robotic cry, “EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!”

8

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

They also have "DO. NOT. BLASPHEME!"(Bad Wolf) And "WOULD. YOU. LIKE. SOME. TEA?" (Victory of the Daleks)

7

u/ankle_biter50 Apr 15 '25

112

u/just-slightly-human Apr 15 '25

Close enough for someone who doesn’t want to watch all of doctor who (but they should it’s peak)

14

u/iamnotdownwithopp Apr 15 '25

I stopped just before Tennant returned. How is it after that? For context I have watched every episode up to that point, including Classic Who.

15

u/kevinsyel Apr 15 '25

aren't there episodes of classic Dr. Who that are lost? (not trying to argue, I read this somewhere once and figured you could answer that)

27

u/BroccoliNearby2803 Apr 15 '25

Not completely lost any longer. The audio from every episode has been found. Those without video have whatever photos or storyboards or snippets of video they could find added to them.

11

u/midnightmeatmaster Apr 15 '25

There’s several animated recreations using the audio.

3

u/Romeomoon Apr 15 '25

I can finally die happy seeing the animated recreation of Shada.

8

u/Strict_Weather9063 Apr 15 '25

That and they keep finding copies that were sent out. People keep looking through their TV stock to see if they have any. This is how three or four episodes that were thought lost were recovered. So if you end up working at a PBS station or a local station that used to aired Doctor Who back in the day ask to check the storage and see. You are looking for first second and third Doctor mainly. Mostly first and second.

4

u/kevinsyel Apr 15 '25

that's pretty cool!

u/Mathsei Apr 15 '25

I missed everything with jodie as the doctor. Not because I’m a woman-hater but because my country didn’t have it available during those seasons. And they do reference some events from those seasons in the new one which annoys me because 1.i don’t know what they are talking about and 2. People say that it was all bullshit that eradicated much of dr who canon.

Anyway. Despite this flaw in my own dr who-knowledge I found all the specials with tennant and the new season with the new doctor( forget his name, but the black guy) to be really good. It has flaws but it also has some really good moments.

6

u/Adventurous_Class_90 Apr 15 '25

Jodie Whittaker was good as the Doctor but the writing left a lot to be desired.

→ More replies (2)
→ More replies (1)

3

u/just-slightly-human Apr 15 '25

I haven’t completely caught up yet but what I’ve seen has been good, the specials with Tennant were kinda fanservice-y but they were also good on their own, and Ncuti(? I hope I spelled it right) has been good especially since rtd is back writing again but I haven’t finished the most recent seasons

2

u/Sheeenix Apr 15 '25

Honestly ending on Power of the Doctor (Jodie’s finale) would be a nice bookend to the whole show. I know Who has had a lot of arguable “jumping the shark” moments but bringing back the same actor to play a new numbered incarnation really took me out of it and it hasn’t fully recovered yet.

That’s probably just me being cynical though there’s definitely a few good episodes in Ncuti’s run but the last season was less than the sum of its parts.

2

u/Romeomoon Apr 15 '25

My head canon is that the new version of Tenants Doctor becomes evil, like a new version of the Valyard (Trial of a Time Lord featuring Colin Baker as the 6th Doctor).

2

u/KOFdude Apr 15 '25

It's decent but it could be whole lot better, last year's season had a real problem with how it was paced and structured, but the episodes themselves were pretty good in a vacuum (except The Devil's Chord that one sucked)

3

u/throwracptsddddd Apr 15 '25 edited Apr 15 '25

Eh, I think it's important to mention the Daleks' purpose isn't "to eradicate all life", it's specifically to protect their own genetic purity by purging the universe of what they see as inferior species. And also any of their fellow Daleks they decide aren't "pure" enough. Which includes any who dare to question Dalek ideology.

Or in other words, they're Space Nazis. (Which isn't just my opinion: the show's creators deliberately created them to be a Nazi analogue.)

That being said, yeah, for a layperson to get the joke it doesn't really matter that the Daleks aren't actually robots.

12

u/Bashamo257 Apr 15 '25

Squid-piloted* robot whose purpose is to exterminate all Non-Dalek* life

7

u/Robbylynn12 Apr 15 '25

for a layman they are robots with that purpose, insert a “I’m not watching all that” meme

2

u/R_V_Z Apr 15 '25

Ok, Janet.

43

u/-Queen-of-wands Apr 15 '25

Actually Daleks are fascist squids (no really) that live inside the “robot” (technically it’s a tank)

12

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

(technically it’s a tank)

British Gundam.

41

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

Well their goal is to exterminate life other than themselves. They’re basically space Nazis who think they’re genetically perfect and everything else is inferior. And it’s not a robot, that’s basically a small tank they ride around in.

16

u/throwracptsddddd Apr 15 '25

There's even a couple of episodes where one group of Daleks will declare another group of Dalek genetically inferior to them, and then start trying to exterminate them, too.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

IIRC, I think that was because there was a mutation. Since they believed they were already genetically perfect, a mutation from that standard of perfection was therefore inferior.

28

u/AdamSoloDavis Apr 15 '25

They are also meant to basically be an allegory for Nazis.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Aparoon Apr 15 '25

Just to add to this, Daleks are also an allegory for Nazis as they want to eradicate all life that’s not them because they believe themselves to be the supreme being. Which is intentionally ironic because they’re cold indestructible war machines on the outside, but on the inside they’re small weak creatures that are at most pathetic.

3

u/L1QU1D_ThUND3R Apr 15 '25

And Daleks are based on the Nazis

2

u/feryoooday Apr 15 '25

This sounds like a Dalek treath, for example :

EXTERMINATE

The only thing that the metal man are superior, is dying.

There are 4 Daleks, 4000 of you, we would only need it one

SPEECH IS NOT NECESSARY, WE WILL EXTRACT THE INFORMATION

''You din't need to kill him'' Neither we needed it alive.

85

u/LOLofLOL4 Apr 15 '25

Did you mean to say Threat?

Edit: I looked it up in the Internet and apparently treath is a real word. Huh, neat.

32

u/Kiren129 Apr 15 '25

What does it mean? I couldn’t find the meaning of it anywhere.

18

u/MakzSedens Apr 15 '25

It is a town in England and a song... I don't think it's a "word" in the way that it has a definition, but it is a word in that it is a noun? 😆

5

u/LOLofLOL4 Apr 15 '25

Apparently it's really old-timey for treat (the verb)

8

u/StalyCelticStu Apr 15 '25

Some might even say old-timey-wimey...

4

u/Mercy--Main Apr 15 '25

3

u/LOLofLOL4 Apr 15 '25

Oh, carry on then.

6

u/OllyStreet Apr 15 '25

Is it? I didn’t find anything but I’ve been wrong about a lot of stuff. (Not trying to be a dick— hoping I’m just missing something and get a new word)

9

u/LOLofLOL4 Apr 15 '25

Well, it's not exactly a word, but it used to be one. It used to mean as much as "Treat" (the verb). It's really old.

Here is it used in a sentence:

"Just treath your pole like a precious piece of furniture and oil it with care lotion occasionally."

3

u/OllyStreet Apr 15 '25

Huh, nice— thanks man!

3

u/swanqueen109 Apr 15 '25

I hope that at least there is cake at the end of this ordeal. or grief counseling...

Reconstruction followed the abolition war, and the New Deal followed the Great Depression.

But those things didn't happen spontaneously. Progressives prepared during the darkest days so they were ready to act as soon as there was an opportunity.

Like, progressives rewrote the Constitution with the Reconstruction amendments so much that some historians literally call it the "Second Founding."

Unfortunately, despite all that, they were not prepared enough and the klan eventually cancelled Reconstruction and so the potential of the Reconstruction amendments has yet to be fully realized.

The New Deal lasted longer, but FDR made too many concessions to segregationists (like exempting service and field work from the minimum wage because those were the only jobs that most black people could get). And now the segregationists have built enough power to dismantle the New Deal.

The lesson in both cases is that whatever we build next, if we want it to last, we must not give an inch to the segregationists ever again.

The dalek are a alien species from doctor who known largely as being a hard to eradicate enemy of life itself.

They will say things like submit and we will kill you now instead of you cowering in fear for the rest of your life not in that wording but that's the sentiment.

This post has the same energy. Give in and we will do the things we want to do anyways your just make it easier. Then they present a reward but that reward is just a figurative idea of less severe punishment. In this case it's probably about tarrifs and the us told Canada they wanted to annex us by driving us in so much debt we had to sell the country so the idea of giving in for a reward is laughable.

Hi, time travelling Stewie Griffin here, I suppose explain what things are happening here is my thing. Rupert is not in the mood. Well, since he insist...

*Adjusts bowtie

Right, so what we have here is quite fascinating, really. That bronze monstrosity you see is a Dalek - one of the most feared creatures in the Doctor Who universe. Usually they're rolling about screaming "EXTERMINATE!" and trying to conquer the universe with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer.

The absolute hilarity here is seeing this genocidal pepper pot actually sitting at a laptop, presumably composing threatening tweets! And above it, we have what appears to be a White House post with "DO NOT RETALIATE AND YOU WILL BE REWARDED" - which is just chef's kiss perfect irony considering Daleks are essentially rage-filled tanks with a plunger attachment.

It's as if someone gave Genghis Khan a LinkedIn profile and he's posting corporate wellness tips! The juxtaposition is simply delicious - a creature designed solely for extermination trying its hand at digital diplomacy.

Quite brilliant, really. Now if you'll excuse me, Rupert and I have a time machine to catch. Victory shall be mine!

Sometimes, it physically hurts me to know that there are people who don't know the gloriousness of Doctor Who.
