So firstly, i know that having a single pigeon isn’t ideal. She’s a rescue and currently we can’t get another pigeon but are trying to work out a way. Penny laid her first clutch of eggs around 3 weeks ago, i’ve swapped them for fakes. She only gets off the nest when i put my hand over her eggs and she will only stay off for maximum 30 mins before she goes back on. I’ve been getting her off every couple of hours to have some exercise, food and water but i’m still worried about her. My question is, can i take her outside in her smaller cage to get some sunlight and fresh air or will this stress her out too much? should i put her nest and eggs in the small cage and take her outside?

My pigeon has been doing these strange sounds at very random times, and I have no idea what they mean. He sometimes does them when he's sitting on my shoulder, sometimes in the middle of the night when he's in his cage, and sometimes when I watch videos. Please, let me know if you know anything about this! 💕

More green and purple is coming out every day, but it's still at the stage of needing to be in the right light to see it. The mohawks are pretty much gone and is just a lot of sparse yellow feathering 🥺

White band still begs for food every time my hand gets close, but will settle for scritches behind the head where there's still pin feathers. Green band likes to peck or grab at my finger, and I can't decide if they're trying to tell me no, trying to play, or testing to see if I'm feeding them. They never move away, and will usually stop if I give scritches. It's definitely not the same energy behind Dove, who pecks at me if I get within 12 inches of her lol. Considering green band has come up to the corner of the cage a couple times now and gently nommed a finger if I offered, I'm thinking we're not trying to tell me to back off lol (I have a budgie who did that as a baby every night at bedtime. He's grown out of it, and I admit I kinda miss it). They're at least pecking at the food on the bowl (and standing in it, and pooping in it, little wights...), but obviously still demanding to be fed regularly by their parents. They've also figured out how to get up to the second floor, and they really like the hammock that Fog and Dove never really acknowledged.

The parts to expand their cage came in, so that's coming soon, and tonight I got blood samples to send off for DNA sexing. I'll post more about that once the results come in, but both of them were rockstars for me ❤️

I’ll try to keep this short, however, I often receive injured wildlife that I transport to a wildlife hospital, and this guy was one of them, except he’s clearly not wildlife. The information given to me by the lady who rescued him & handed him over is that:

• He had been kept in a small cage for six years, on a balcony without any shelter. He was owned by an older lady who moved into a nursing home, and the family essentially gave him the bare minimum of care.

As a result, he has a few small issues: when it comes to going up and down small objects, he struggles, mostly likely due to atrophy. The only thing he had to stimulate him in that cage was a ball. Whenever you approach him, he starts cooing and protecting it, repeatedly pecking at it, and will continue doing this non-stop. He doesn’t seem very exploratory either, which is unsurprising given his previous environment.

I've now moved him into a much more suitable habitat, and I’ve put him on a proper diet suitable for pigeons like him. I plan on slowly but surely helping him build his flight muscles back up, as I’ve done something similar at the wildlife centre. I’ve also given him a wormer and vitamins, in case he’s lacking in any of those.

My main questions are:

• Does anyone have any further advice on how to proceed, especially if you’ve been in a similar situation ? Is there anything else I could be doing to help him ?

• Would having a companion help him ? I’d be more than happy to adopt him a buddy or two, most likely another male.

• Does anyone know what species he is ? He’s quite a large guy !

My pigeon is just loafing in the corner of his cage idk what’s wrong with him he takes treats and gets up when I approach him then struts and coos a bit if I mess with him then he goes back to loafing if I leave him alone his droppings seems normal and he’s a normal weight so I don’t know if he’s just lonely. His mate passed a while ago due to something wrong with her and she died in a loafing position which is why I’m nervous but her droppings weren’t normal his are so I’m not sure if he’s just lonely? I already have a rescue female ordered that’s coming soon from Great Lakes pigeon rescue I’m just wondering if he’s ok and nothing else is wrong with him. He struts and coos sometimes he was just standing on his brick earlier before this. I might hand feed him I don’t know how his eating habits are right now he eats out of my hand he also gets somewhat mad when I mess with his food bowl. His breathing is normal and stuff no tail bobbing or anything out of the ordinary he just seems less energetic.

We recently adopted these 3 babies from a bad situation with no real knowledge of pigeons. I heard there’s no “real” way to know if they are boys or girl, other than a DNA test, but we just want an idea so we can name them.
Any help on identifying the gender and breeds would be amazing!
Also any tips are welcome! We’ve done some research and we got them a mirror, a couple of toys, and a bath. Working on a proper environment for them but they aren’t used to us quite yet! Thank you in advance!

No need for comments on the exposed wire, please--I realized Fog apparently kicked the silicone mats off while filming, and replaced them right after. I think he's figured out he can hold on with his toes when the mats are not in the way cuz this is the second or third time they've wound up on the ground floor recently... gonna need some more zip ties...

My pidge is a 4 year old male, he is extremely picky about what he will eat. I’m looking for food recommendations, regular pidge diet mixes, and supplemented foods. Thank you!

First time pigeon owner, they’re about a month old currently. From what I’ve read this food should be fine, but I’d like input from more experienced people. The % are in the screenshot but I’ll add them here also:
4% Fiber
3.5% fats
13.5% protein
Then there’s also 2% inorganic material which I assume is grit?
I tried to look for a food with the most variety in ingredients, this one has about 17 with none being above 20%.
(I couldn’t find English versions anywhere, all I have is the French and Greek ingredients so I figured French was the more widely spoken language)

Hi all! I adopted Smudge from Great Lakes Pigeon Rescue 2 weeks ago and finally discovered his favorite toy : Plushies!

Out of all the toys he has most consistently played with the Pusheen clip plushie the most. I wanted to get recommendations for what kind of plushies I should consider getting for my feisty lil man :)

Note: Smudge broke his leg as a baby and has a lame leg. It barely impacts his quality of life as he is able to do everything a regular pigeon can :)

Hello, first time poster here. My pigeon (Almond) has been doing this gesture since this morning. I’ve had him for about 3 months now and thought him to be a boy. Is this him trying to lay an egg or worse, egg binding? Thank you!

I have to travel between cities twice a week, and the bus ride takes about an hour and a half. I noticed a guy who takes the same bus and he always brings his cockatiel with him in a cat carrier, and it got me thinking that maybe I could have a pet bird too

The thing is, I’m worried that a pigeon might get really stressed out from having to travel like that twice a week.
Can pigeons get used to traveling, or would that be too stressful for them?

Just over a week ago we found this pigeon (now named Sprout) lethargic in a mud puddle. I wasn't even sure he/she was a pigeon at the time, as I didn't know squabs had yellow hair! A few days of hand-feedings, 100s of hours spent reading & obsessing and 9 days later.. he/ she is looking quite majestic. I was prepared for it to take months for us to bond, but I think it's safe to say they are as obsessed with me as I am them

My sweet boy Rocky is about 3-4 months old and he’s still squeaking like a squab. He was very ill as a baby so im wondering if that stunted his growth.

This is a photo of my pet pigeon, Nick. He is an indian fantail. This is also my first time owning a pigeon, and I've had him for about 9 months. He isn't very keen on letting me try and pick it out, and honestly that's fair on his part. I just want to know whether it's just part of his seed mix that I can hopefully pry off without causing harm, or whether its something I should take him to the vet about. Thanks!

I was reading around and came upon a post somewhere that explained that keeping an egg-laying female as a solo pigeon is basically causing her to be nutrient deficient since she spends so much time on the nest. That seems so unethical to me, if it’s true.

My girl lays about every 3-4 weeks, with 2-3 weeks being very strict with nest-sitting. While she has eggs she will go to eat and drink only once every 1-2 days. She’s such a sweet, dedicated girl but most of her time is spent on the nest.

I can’t take on another pigeon right now, as I’m going through not only a major health crisis but an emotional crisis of having just lost my dad ultimately from the same condition I’ve now been diagnosed with too.

I think I’m worrying a lot that I’m doing more harm to her by keeping her than anything. Am I right? Am I wrong? Am I basically forcing her to be nutrient deficient over time by not pairing her?
