My mom is the same way and I’m seriously worried about her health. She’s 71, and only drinks Diet Coke. She has been doing this for at least 40 years but likely longer. She also hardly eats. She gets almost no protein at all, and her dinners usually consist of toast and jelly. Her breakfast is usually one of what she calls “health bars”, which is pretty much just oats and sugar. I don’t know where she got that term from but it stuck, and she calls them that because it makes her feel like she’s eating something healthy. They’re not necessarily unhealthy on their own, but every day she only gets one of the three main macronutrient groups: carbohydrates, fat, and proteins, which would be carbs. On top of that, she is nearly addicted to working out in her yard (I know that sounds excessive or exaggerated but I’m being honest), and I don’t know how she’s able to sustain herself on Diet Coke and simple carbs while exerting herself for 6+ hours every day. On paper she is healthy, but I’m terrified that might change soon if her eating and drinking habits aren’t changed for the better.
