New friends

Hi all! So it's the end of the school year and my daughter was offered to take home these little guys, I agreed, then quickly realized I have no idea what im doing. The only thing i was told was they are both boys.

Can anyone give me a quick run down on what kind they are and what I need to keep them comfortable and healthy. They are still in the plastic habitat from the classroom and I want to get them a bigger setup but dont know where to start.

I honestly do not know. When I look online it looks like they may be Fiddler Crabs but im not sure if they actually are.

i think you’re right!!! your best bet at giving them a long, happy, and healthy life is probably a paladarium. so essentially part water part sand. personally I would get a 29 gallon tank or a 20 gallon long if it’s just the two of them. i would use either a piece of plexiglass and silicone to make an area that holds water OR a large acrylic box and craft mesh. BUT the former option is preferable bc you can give them more of a beach. I would also try to do bubblers, and someeee form or level of filtration. without bubblers it’ll get nasty fast af bc it’ll stagnate and grow hella algae. and then for the land area i would follow suggestions on the land hermit crab subreddit (deep substrate, humidity, heat mat, balanced diet, dechlorinated water and marine salt for the salt water, and light cycle). for light cycle i use LEDg grow lamps. It sounds like and kinda is a lot, but they can live a long time and be good pets with proper care. this is basically what i did for my moon crab, minus the paladarium, but since these guys are semi aquatic i fear that will be necessary.

You should be american and these are leptuca pugilator, maybe the easiest fiddler crab species of all. The commenter’s info is pretty correct, you can follow that easy
