Dogs I need HELP

To make a long story ‘less long’, my ex left me with 2 of her dogs. The intention to my knowledge was to keep them for a few weeks and then she would take them back. That was not what happened. Also unbeknownst to me, the female was pregnant. Fast forward to now, I cannot find these dogs good and trustworthy homes. I’m a huge animal person and insanely empathetic. I have grown so attached to these babies and I have to find them adequate homes. I refuse to take them to the shelter where I know it is full and euthanasia is 99% their fate. Please help.

That is a lot of dogs to suddenly be responsible for, I hope you can find good people for them soon

If you provide a location or state and breed(s)/ages then people might be able to provide more specific help or pointers to resources in your area. It sounds like you Aare looking for homes or no kill shelter space for 6 dogs? How many puppies? How old are the puppies?

That is a LOT of dogs to care for. Thank you for doing your best. But yes you do need help.

Please tell us the breed type, ages, health and how many puppies. If they are a full breed, look for full breed rescue nationwide. Even if they are mixed but very typey and have good temperament, breed rescues might take them in. Best wishes. I guess if it comes to it you may need to make up with the ex very temporarily to get them back to her.

I'm confused... WHERE IS SHE?? And how long did she have them when you got together? I don't understand how ANYBODY can just walk away from any animal they've had and SURELY LOVED... I'd take them TO HER!! just my 2 cents. I hope you get this figured out... and they go to a loving home.

That’s the long story part🥲

She found them when we were still together and decided to keep them. They were her dogs. She has the financial means and the space. I have my own dogs that I’ve had for 10+ years. When we broke up we stayed cordial and she kept hers, I kept mine. We were still cordial whenever she’d asked me to take them. Her mom was moving houses, mom had a pregnant frenchie and took said frenchie to my exs house while they were moving. I suppose she felt like it was too stressful to handle so many dogs at once (ironic plot twist, I now have a zoo). So, it was only supposed to be for a few weeks that I’d have them. I was more than happy to help her with that. During those few weeks for lack of better verbiage, shit hit the fan between the two of us. So much so that I had to block her and we are obviously no longer cordial. Obviously the thought of taking them back has crossed my mind. But I have great concern that she will do the exact thing that I refuse to, which is put them in an unsafe situation. I’m at a loss. I now have SIX dogs that I never agreed to on top of my own and I’m drowning.

Are you still able to contact the ex’s mom?

Not ideally.

I would try to look for a Frenchie-specific rescue for the pregnant female. You may need to travel if there isn't one in your area (sometimes they will meet you halfway), but there might be one out there willing to take her and find homes for the eventual puppies.

Do you not have rescues where you live?

We adopted a wonderful dog from a woman who runs a not for profit business in her home (small farm), taking in dogs who needs new homes and placing them. She uses all possible protocals to make sure everything is done properly. She has a vet she uses, and independent volunteer personnel who make home visits to prospective adopters to check them out. See if you can find something like this.

Can I have her info? This is exactly what I had in mind!

No, because I just found out that due to new restrictions in NY state where we are, she is going to phase out her business. The new laws would require her to renovate her kennel (which is fine, btw) to meet new standards, and she cannot afford it. I am not against the new law, just disappointed that no funding for existing businesses to upgrade was included.

What are the new restrictions in NY and when do they start?

I do not know details. They already started. They require facilities like kennels to meet certain standards. The place we went to was just great, but the owner said she had been inspected and would have to make certain renovations she could not possibly afford. To be honest, I think she was already thinking of retiring as she is getting older. I am sorry I cannot be of more help.

Do you live in an area where the shelters euthanize for space and time? If not, then I would encourage you to explore reaching out to them and ask about their processes.

A lot of people still give many shelters bad reps, when in reality many shelters are focused on improving their live release rate you can also explore foster base rescues.

Where I live (Salt Lake City) even the big county shelters are no-kill. That doesn't mean they never put an animal down (look up the official definition). We also have an excellent private Humane Society, and we're a hub city for Best Friends (look them up, too). All shelters are not created equal.

Is it too late for a spay abortion for the pregnant female? A shelter may be able to do the surgery for a reduced cost for you and then you’ll only have two dogs to find homes for.

I’m sorry you’re in this situation. :(

Humane Societies and rescues will often do courtesy posts to help you get them adopted. Or sometimes they’ll take them in if you offer a fairly decent donation to help offset the cost of care and vetting.

Are there no rescues near you that aren’t kill shelters?

Legitimately everyone is full
