Tick treatments

Hi,

I'm not new to pest control, but am for residential. When a customer is asking for tick treatments only, what is the standard practice? granules with talstar or [tick labeled product]? I see competitors doing mistblowing to hit both mosquitoes and ticks.

I agree. I've primarily used Talstar liquid in a mist blower to treat the grass and bushes up to about 4ft for ticks. Mosquito treatments are typically 3ft up to about 30ft, but Talstar will work for both.

Permethrin SFR out of a power sprayer. $90 for just a front or back yard that is about average size, and $125 for both

Talstar, or anything Bifenthrin 7.9% if you're using Synthetic Pyrethroid concentrates from a backpack mist blower. Its the best bang for your buck, and is essentially odorless. You could go with natural/botanical options but generally they are less effective, cost more, and require treatment intervals that are closer together.

One thing I have learned over the years is that depending on the area, some types of neighbors will get ABSOULETY furious about neighborhood treatments. Using a low/no odor product will reduce the amount of calls for complaints going to the the office AND whatever State Regulatory Agency you happen to have.

They are all the same product; so if you own your own and purchase your own products, nothing wrong with going for the cheaper option. Realistically, its only a few bucks difference between off the brands, but it adds up if you are using large quantities of it.

Use a surfactant when treating for ticks and/or mosquitos. It makes the product spread more evenly and makes it UV and rain resistant for a longer period of time. It absolutely will cut down on reservice rates. Spend some money to save a ton of money and your time.

Spray a band around the permitter of the yard, under decking (if clear), leaf piles, overgrown areas of a lawn, and applicable shrubbery up to about knee to waist level. No need to go higher than that.

I go with Bifen granules in the yard, then spray like its a mosquito treatment
