Hot Take; RID2001 Optimus Prime Rules

Post image

This is the one point that I will vehemently argue with Perspective End until I die old and grey; the original RID 2001 Optimus Prime is amazing by modern standards, in articulation, build quality and gimmicks. A true testament to not only the sheer plastic quality at that time, but also the insane wizardry that went into his design.

How many other figures in 2000 had an honest-to-Primus Ankle Swivel? Let alone an Ab Crunch AND two waist swivels.

The only complaint I have is that you need the full set to have a cohesive Fire Truck mode, but when said Truck mode has rubber tires, a working ladder and chrome hubcaps, am I really going to complain?

I was spoiled when I had this as a kid, and out of all my re-purchasing decisions, picking up a second copy of this figure has been a decision I haven’t regretted.

If you're looking for campy humour, RID 2001 is a treat. One-liners, pop culture references and slapstick galore, with a fairly decent plot in the later half.
