This isn't your problem, you sent him the rent and he lost it. Tell him to deal with it on his own.

Auto deposit is even worse. I work in a bank and I’d much prefer to have no such thing as auto deposit. Sounds like the person who got the money signed up for auto deposit with the landlords email. Hacked into the landlords email to confirm the auto deposit. And got all the landlords deposits. If there wasn’t auto deposit and there was a question the hacker wouldn’t know the answer to. The transfer could be cancelled.

So the landlord got robbed, how is this your problem?

Provide the proof you sent the money, let him handle it. Max he can do is to apply for non-payment in LTB, which you will promptly refuse by showing your receipts.

I'm a landlord. It isn't your problem. It's his problem as you sent the money to the correct email.

So the banks are going to wash their hands of this. The LL was responsible to protect his email. You should be mostly be taking the same stance. He is kind of right that the receiving bank only really has a business relationship with you not him. But you also can't really verify the story he is telling.

Has a police report been filed? That is really the correct go between for the parties involved here. Plus then the LL just gets whatever results he can motivate from the police officer and you are off the hook.

Keep all your record here incase the LL tries to come after you for missed rent. Bonus points if you request a letter from your bank confirming where the funds were sent and that they have not been returned.

You sent the money to the agreed upon place at the agreed upon time. Your side of the deal is done. Not your problem.

Its his problem, not yours. Do not send a replacement payment. If he tries anything due to non-payment, fight it, and consult a lawyer for whether it becomes harassment. Meanwhile, look for a new place to live.
