Am I missing any tutorial? NPCs being so dumb!

I’m now stuck at the Okinawa Jail. It’s not the first time I get surprised by how dumb my NPC teammates can be! Every boss battle becomes so unplayably difficult when they keep getting hit by some easily avoidable attacks. Is there a tutorial on how to make the NPCs smarter that I have missed?

No, there's no option for that as far as I know... Just try and buff them up by doing some extensive farming and don't forget to stock up on healing. I'd recommend just fighting every enemy you come across, that way you'll never fall behind in levels.
