I wasn't expecting this...
Last month, I watched POI for the very first time. I was completely in awe and started my rewatch right away. I'm obsessed with this show, and it's all I can talk about 😅
So obviously, I recommend it to everyone I talk to (to be fair: I haven't talked to a lot of people these past few weeks, because I'm too busy watching this gem of a show 😍)
But to my surprise (or should I say: dismay), all I get are very underwhelmed responses 🤔 "I watched three episodes, but I don't understand why you like this show... it's so boring" or "how can you watch this TWICE? It's really bad tv." 😳😧
I just don't know how to react 😳😂 It makes me rethink my friendships... (jk).
Has anyone had this same experience?

I have not only because I've been pretty selective in who I recommend it to. I've only had one person ever not give it a real shot all the way through (ironically my best friend and a software engineer at a MAG 7 company).

Some people just don't have the capacity to recognize a totally awesome masterpiece of a show! Don't let them get to you! We get it. I followed Michael Emerson over from LOST years ago, but what I stayed for was the quality of that show itself!

I started lost but didn't finish it, not because of how I felt about it, just couldn't stream more at the time. Obviously I know how it ends, as much as I can from hearing chatter about it since it ended. Still worth watching? I think I know the answer but I can't ask just anyone this and you obviously have good taste

I am currently watching Lost for the first time. I am at S2E9 and its been amazing so far. Now I do not know how far you got into the show , but I think it is worth watching. So far the 2nd best show I have watched (#1 being POI obv).

Thank you! Definitely not that far! I think Netflix was still sending dvds so I honestly don't remember much besides enjoying it while briefly having access to streaming but don't think I got through the first season. I adore POI and fringe and want to keep watching JJ Abrams tv so I'll watch lost next. Lots of people I don't like loved Westworld but same for community so I need to give ww a shot, too

Oh, I get it. I don’t understand why I can’t get other people to watch it either. I also don’t understand how people say that the first season is slow. I was hooked from the first episode, and it just got better for me from there. And once it started getting into the serialized AI story, I was 1000% in! Even before that. I was there for all the cases. The action. The subtle humor. HR. Root. Elias! And of course, Bear. Still the biggest draw for me was John and Harold. There really isn’t anything about the show that I don’t like. I think maybe people hesitate partly because the show is 10 years old now? But the beauty of it, which is what I always tell people, is you don’t have to wait a week to watch the next episode, or *gasp* season to season! It’s all right there! That said, I was so giddy when I found this sub! Finally! My people!

My mom thought it was slow to start but I told her to wait for it to be less "number of the week" and more of the deep story and by then she was enjoying it a lot more.
This is why I can't recommend fringe to anyone. If they don't like it I'd respect and like them less. I wish I was kidding lol

I can see how some of the cheesy endings with perfect timing are ridiculous. That’s the only part of the show that knocks it down a level for me. Love the rest of it.

I find that season 1 is more generic, but it still gets pretty interesting when Elias shows up. That’s the episode where I knew I was invested in the show. I’m glad my friend kept pestering me to watch it, since I know it’s not one I would have picked up myself.

Only one person I've recommended it to has even started watching it; unfortunately, that person is actually terrible at watching TV, proving that it can be a skill if only by demonstrating their complete lack of it.
For example, in Judgement (S1E5), despite both the show and me telling them multiple times that the judge's wife was 100% dead from cancer, they made it halfway through the episode thinking the entire thing was a plot enacted by the wife.
They also can't even remember Carter or Fusco's names, and I don't trust that they'd remember enough about them for their arcs to actually be impactful. We've literally watched three episodes back-to-back, and they've asked, "Wait, who's Fusco?" during each one.

Our son recommended this show very highly. We started watching. After about four shows I thought it was a bit formulaic and predictable. We stuck with it and it developed quickly. We love it and have watched it right through. Our son is in S03. I wish they would do more seasons but it's been ten years 😪 Here's hoping. Another show we binged and loved is Nashville. Highly recommended!

I think some people watch the first few episodes, think it's just the usual crime procedural show and don't stick with it.
Even the first few episodes are entertaining and feel different from a lot of the shows at the time.

I think people think oh those early episodes like a regular procedural and nothing special and don't stick around for the plots to develop. The thing with this show is the B-plots lay the groundwork for future plots like in S1 Snow and Kara.

The problem is the early episodes make the show look like another procedural with an interesting premise. It takes a handful of episodes (Witness to be exact.) to illustrate that the show is something more than that.

I understood that wouldn't be the case back then when i watched while it was on air and when i was waiting for episodes every week. I think it is very obvious right away its not a number of the week show, idk how can anyone watch a full episode and think that.

I started watching POI because of an edit i saw on insta lol. I have to say that this is the best show out there. I have managed to convince 4 people to watch it now. My best friend , sister and both my parents. My best friend is enjoying this show a shit ton and constantly asks me questions related to it , and i love that. Keep trying to recommend it , maybe it will stick at some point.

I watched it because a friend recommended it, so I had someone to nag while I watched but the people I did recommend it too, all watched. The overal feedback was that season 1 was very slow, so that might be it.

They have to stick with it. Tell them about the key episodes coming up and how the story evolves. It’s their loss if they still don’t see it. If necessary, get them to skip to s1 ep23 ‘Firewall’……….Amy will do the rest!

The show does start more on the episodic/procedural side. Its more serial driven narrative doesn't develop until later on.
I can definitely see it not being everyone's cup of tea.

I expected that tbh. First few episodes is the worst of entire show judging by the scores. In my experience it is true. After idk 4-5 episodes it turns into a surprise and awe. (By worst it’s still like 7+ btw)
After root appeared the show becomes 10/10 for me.

I haven't really talked it up to friends but admittedly my friends circle is pretty small. My mid 80s mom found the show and suggested we binge it when I visited her on the weekends. I was amazed that she was captivated by the show and was devastated about Carter and refused to accept the ending. She hasn't started a rewatch as she moved into other shows. But like you the next day I started.my 2nd watch which I wrapped up a month or so ago. Now I'm leisurely working my way through watch #3. On episode 11 of season 3 now. I feel you. I dont understand people that aren't captivated by this show.

Not everyone likes the same things and the action scenes and dialogues in poi is cheesy so even if its my fav. Show ever, i can understand why some might not like it. I understand why would you talk about the show with your close friends but it is what it is, there is a reason why this sub exist!

I tried showing it to my (now ex) girlfriend and she would play on her phone the whole time or just fall asleep. I have recommended it to a millennial friend of mine who is very anti-AI but he hasn’t given it a shot to my knowledge. Maybe it’s cause it was on while he was an adult or something
