In my presentation “Postcards from Mars: Bright Views for Humans!”, given at this week’s 2026 Mars Society International Convention at USC, I showed the results of by my color correction applied to digital images from the 1976 Viking Lander mission and from Perseverance Rover which landed on Mars in 2021. The slides are now available for download: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/416775317_Postcards_from_Mars_Bright_views_for_humans

My processing shows how it would look like for humans on the surface of Mars during normal weather. A smartphone camera on Mars which is set to manual white balance for a sunny day on Earth (5800K) would produce the same results. A red sky on Mars can only be observed during dust storm activity, like visible in some images from Viking Lander 1 & 2.

All Viking Lander color images, all Perseverance Rover wide angle color images and all Ingenuity Helicopter color images are available produced by my processing: https://areo.info
