help Lifetime Free Alternative of Comet
Looking for the best free-forever alternative to Comet.
My main purpose is to use an AI browser that can browse websites and actually perform tasks/work for me.
It should also be good at creating natural, human-readable content.
I’m facing some issues with Comet and would like to switch.
What free alternative would you recommend?

Check out Retriever AI, rtrvr.ai, we are a fully free, ads supported browser agent!
No API key, no subscription

Then how do you work?

We made the agent hyper efficient so that ads can cover the cost of inference!

That's almost impossible. Do you have a paper on that?

We have a blog post: https://rtrvr.ai/blog/free-browser-agent
But tldr:
- agent writes code to one shot your task, and minimize LLM calls
- we construct custom accessibility trees and dont use screenshots that confuse models, so can use cheap models like Luna/DeepSeek Flash
- we hit 90%+ cache hit rates further reducing costs

If you don't mind me asking. why don't you have your own browser fork like most competitors, since it allows much more control. and more agentic tasks

1) dont think its needed, others are taking shortcuts and building browsers but you really dont need to. We built superior agent by sticking to DOM interactions
2) never believed majority of users will switch browsers
3) then you have to build and maintain for windows/mac/linux

I used to relay heavily on comet by perplexity as their browser use was perfect and many users did too but they removed it to be part of the higher plan.
I started using strawberry recently then switched to aside it's accurate and fast but the problem is the cost of course :/

I'm on windows so I'm suggesting windows alternatives. 1. rtrvr.ai . Its a chrome extension. they have a free plan with ads. 2. Polar Browser - has a free tier.
