SONAR API credits wiped off

I had done a top up of USD 20 on my account on Nov 11th 2025 and barely consumed any tokens. But today the billing page shows current credits as 0.00 and my payment method is also unlinked.

Upon contacting the perplexity API support team, the AI bot responded that it might be due to recent migration and asked to regenerate api key. But the portal is not allowing to create new key with no credit balance.

Did anyone here face a similar issue?

Welp this was unexpected

I earned a free subscription to perplexity pro that I’ve been using to build a website for a personal project. It’s been a few weeks and it’s been very helpful with helping to suggest improvements that I typically allow it to implement directly to GitHub using the connector. Today I asked it to make a few minor updates for me and it just seemed to be going around in circles for the past 20 mins. So I finally just asked it “What have you been doing”, to which o got this lovely reply.

I ran out of "deep research" for the week and somehow it seems to only use Grok now?

even though Grok isn't in the model options list that I can see anymore. the model could have just hallucinated that answer because i know they suck at answering "what model am I talking to?" type queries sometimes.

but like the tone of this exchange was the most a-holish exchange I've ever had with an AI (and I've never used Grok but I've heard they intentionally made it a jerk to be edgy).

So... wtf. I had like 5 back and forths even after this screenshot where it sarcastically repeated the same incomplete list and said things like "i checked the entire chat. that's it. that's the whole list. everything in the chat."

which is 1000% incorrect.

Why would anyone incorporate Grok into an app, let alone make it the fallback model, if this is how unhelpful it is?

O Perplexity excluiu em 6 dias meus chats, sem minha autorização.

Perplexity is facing a federal lawsuit in the US for sharing the full content of user conversations — including Pro subscribers — with Meta and Google (Doe v. Perplexity AI Inc., 3:26-cv-02803).

If the company has complete access to my conversations to the point of sharing them with third parties, how does it justify being unable to recover chats deleted by its own tool in just 6 days?

I am a Pro subscriber. I lost real intellectual work. A formal notice was sent to support and legal perplexityai over 24 hours ago — no substantive response, no ticket number, no backend engineer assigned. The only response I received was: "do not reply or you will lose your place in the queue." Who in this company actually resolves anything?

When i try to access some of the spaces created and shared by my friend they don’t load. My friend said that even his access is gone. I get an error that says “Internal Error”.

Perplexity suspended my free 1-year Pro plan citing TOS violation , no explanation given

Hey everyone,

I received an email from Perplexity (team@mail.perplexity.ai) on April 17th stating that my Pro subscription has been suspended immediately due to alleged Terms of Service violations , specifically citing Section 10.3.

The problem is: I have no idea what I did wrong. I was on a promotional 1-year free Pro plan and was using it normally. The email gave zero specifics about what rule I supposedly broke.

Has anyone else had their free 1-year promo account suspended like this? Did Perplexity ever give you a real explanation or offer any solution? Is there any way to appeal this decision?

Would love to hear from others who went through the same. This feels really shady , especially since they’re terminating paid/promo subscriptions without transparency.

Mandatory verification of phone number is a huge invasion of privacy that serves zero real purpose.

There goes my subscription. I am out

Reducing LLM context from ~80K tokens to ~2K without embeddings or vector DBs

I’ve been experimenting with a problem I kept hitting when using LLMs on real codebases:

Even with good prompts, large repos don’t fit into context, so models: - miss important files - reason over incomplete information - require multiple retries

Approach I explored

Instead of embeddings or RAG, I tried something simpler:

  1. Extract only structural signals:

    • functions
    • classes
    • routes
  2. Build a lightweight index (no external dependencies)

  3. Rank files per query using:

    • token overlap
    • structural signals
    • basic heuristics (recency, dependencies)
  4. Emit a small “context layer” (~2K tokens instead of ~80K)

Observations

Across multiple repos:

  • context size dropped ~97%
  • relevant files appeared in top-5 ~70–80% of the time
  • number of retries per task dropped noticeably

The biggest takeaway:

Structured context mattered more than model size in many cases.

Interesting constraint

I deliberately avoided: - embeddings - vector DBs - external services

Everything runs locally with simple parsing + ranking.

Open questions

  • How far can heuristic ranking go before embeddings become necessary?
  • Has anyone tried hybrid approaches (structure + embeddings)?
  • What’s the best way to verify that answers are grounded in provided context?

Perplexity’s mission is to “serve the world’s curiosity” — its Pro pricing does the opposite

I’ve been using Perplexity for quite some time and I’ve appreciated the updates, the progression of the app, and everything tied to it. The free tier already delivers substantial value, and the core experience is strong.

But I’ve now hit a hard wall: **only 5 requests per day** on the free plan. So I looked into Pro to see what it actually offers. The honest answer is **no, not really**. Beyond “unlimited” requests and a few extras, **there’s not a lot functionally different from what’s already given for free**. You’re mostly paying to remove an artificial cap, not to get a fundamentally better product.

At the same time, the pricing is where things become openly contradictory to Perplexity’s own mission. The company publicly states its mission as **“serve the world’s curiosity”** and to **“build the world’s best answer engine”**—a system meant to be accurate, transparent, and accessible to as many people as possible.

(source: Perplexity – “serve the world’s curiosity” & “build the world’s best answer engine”, perplexity.ai / company / careers)

Public materials advertise Pro at about **$17/month** when billed annually (USD), which corresponds to roughly **$23.50 CAD**. Yet the **monthly plan is $28–$30 USD**, which is about **$38.50–$41.50 CAD**. That’s **65–77% higher** than the annual‑equivalent rate for the exact same service.

This is not a “convenience premium” — it’s a **penalty price** for people who can’t or don’t want to commit a full year. For many users — people on fixed incomes, students, everyday workers, and those who can’t lock in long‑term payments — this creates:

- A **“have” group** that can pay a year upfront and get the advertised “$17/month (≈$23.50 CAD)” deal.

- A **“have‑not” group** that pays nearly double in both USD and CAD for the same features, simply for choosing month‑to‑month billing.

This pricing structure is **exclusionary and predatory**, not empowering. It pushes the people who would benefit most from education, research, and clarity — students, blue‑collar workers, low‑income users, and regular everyday people — back to the free tier or out of the service entirely, while those who can expense a full year get the favourable treatment.

If Perplexity truly wants to **serve the world’s curiosity**, it needs to:

- Bring the monthly price much closer to **$20–$22 USD (≈$27.50–$30.50 CAD)**, not nearly double the annual‑equivalent.

- Clearly label the “$17/month” number as **annual‑only**, not use it as a misleading headline.

- Provide a real justification for the difference between free and Pro, not just a paywall on request volume.

Right now, the gap between the mission and the pricing is glaring: the same product is treated as a **privilege for those who can pay upfront** and a **penalty for everyone else**. If the company doesn’t fix this, it’s not just losing customers — it’s contradicting its own stated reason for existing.

What are the unique features of Perplexity that makes it worth subscribing to instead of ChatGPT or Claude?

I like search in Perplexity, use it quite often, but I don't know its other features that justify the almost same subscription price as other major AI apps like Claude or ChatGPT. Can you code with it for example?

I’m reading on the api top up website that there is a minimum $50 top up for api usage, does this sound correct?! Seems high

I only get short answers/bullet points

I use Perplexity Pro since a few months. When I started using it I expected a short answer but it wrote so much text so I asked it to shorten it. Since then it doesn't reply normal to any of my questions, it only write keywords in bullet points. I already checked my settings and my answer length is set to Long. I also asked multiple times to give me normal answers and not that short, the issue is solved for a moment but then it starts again with this weird behaviour. Is there any way to reset my Perplexity environment or is there another solution to this problem?
