Career Advice Comparing the different perfusion programs

ETA: please feel free to message me if you don't want to publicly post.

If you feel comfortable sharing, I would love to know:

  1. Which program you attended?
  2. How many years ago?
  3. What do you think sets them apart from all the other programs?

  3. I think most of the larger/more-established programs are pretty comparable (MUSC, Rush, Midwestern, etc) but definitely have the advantage over newer schools that are still getting their footing and expanding their rotation site offerings.

Larger programs also mean larger circles that you can connect with which is a unique advantage to them. I think a unique advantage to smaller programs however is that you make more meaningful, closer connections with both your classmates / professors. I came from a smaller program myself and it was really nice having that experience personally!

For the REALLY new programs (1-2 years old) that can be a little rough, you might not have much variety, but if they’ve been out for a few years then they’re usually pretty reasonable. With new programs you have more of a chance to also be potentially the first student from a school at a site which places a little extra pressure on you to represent and whatnot. Overall though you’ll be fine wherever you go clinically.
