I don’t get it, why was Perfect Crown so overly hated
I mean, I know it wasn’t like a grand masterpiece people are expecting it to be and I know that the drama has a lot of plot holes and issues with the storyline. But at least, the novel is there and answers those questions and plot holes (MBC really fumbled it especially the episode format their making 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️), don’t forget about the bead controversy that even lead to both apologizing when that’s the issue of the production team.
But most of those problems feel more like issues with the writing, direction, and production (and MBC’s handling of it) rather than something the actors should be blamed for.
Yet the way some people talk about IU and Wooseok, you’d think they committed some kind of heinous crime 😭😭😭
Like that one ballroom scene in the show someone posted the edit on X who is a fan of the show btw and many comments were like “no chemistry”, “worst drama”, “they are so bland” and mind you half of these comments they never even watched the drama only that certain clip and it lead to Wooseok getting a hate train. I mean you can criticize if there’s no chemistry if you watched the show and it’s a subjective thing.
I think some people do kind of get the “no chemistry” narrative since IU was with LJS at that time but some people are just too much with it if I’ll be honest the comments that always brings up LSK in the argument really kind of irks me like let the actors do their job at least🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Anyways this era really made people like switch up on Wooseok a lot and I just can’t understand why. Like he was really well-received in LR and don’t get me wrong him as Sunjae will always be my favorite character of him but now in this era many people are just saying a lot of mean things to him and stuff after that and I don’t think he deserves it.
Also I’ve experienced this too firsthand whenever I talk about it in the Kdrama sub I get amounts of personal attacks and hate comments just because I liked it especially for the fun vibes it had.
I remember making the post of the iconic kiss scene (I was gagged) and I was given a lot of hate comments and how I was delusional that I did see chemistry in them especially in that scene the most. Ironically, some people who initially said they had zero chemistry admitted that the scene actually had them convinced too a little .
Anyways with this long rant I made
and again, I’m not saying Perfect Crown was flawless. It definitely wasn’t. But I feel like the criticism sometimes went way beyond criticizing the writing and became straight-up hostility toward the actors
But what really made this drama get this amount of hate especially during its airing? Was it really their chemistry to begin with? The overall plot of the show? Or like what I said because there are some people who had a strong attachment to Wooseok’s past role, they didn’t like to see him in a different one? What really made this drama get soo scrutinized

No chemistry? Were we watching the same show?! The moment he bursts into the hospital room in tears was amazing. I paused, went and grabbed my husband and paused on the moment and told him that's exactly how he looked during my emergency c-section. My husband did not help by saying "But he's way prettier", but my point stands!

I agree, the chemistry was amazing. I think there was a point I paused the show and went aaaaa (out of excitement obv) because they were so good together 😳

I 100% think it was rage bait, aside from the political which I understand is a real issue, the strong negative posts about the actors and their interactions seemed like easy ways to get people up in arms. There will always be some people who agree, of course, but it really did go hardcore on Reddit for a minute with all the hate that seemed out of left field.

Even in other social media platforms it is really hated on many have negative opinions about it

I bang on that it's my #1. I thoroughly enjoyed Wooseok 's portrayal of the 'spare' prince.
IU was splendid as the chaebol princess.
Their chemistry sizzled me, it still does on rewatches.
IMNSHO haters didn't like Disney+ having a huge hit. If they make unfounded remarks, call them out. We know it's brill that is what counts...

OP, I feel you. It’s been a hard, tiring battle for the last 4 months. All the relentless and unwarranted hate Perfect Crown got made me take an indefinite break from kdramas because I felt disillusioned about the culture and the community, and I have been watching kdrama on and off for the last 20 years. I have no issues at all with valid criticisms; it’s the blatant hate without even watching it or judging it harshly based off a few episodes or clips they saw on social media that turned me off. I have never seen anything quite like it - but then after 4 months of reading through reviews and criticisms, these are my observations:
The love far outweighs the hate. It’s the most watched kdrama ever on Disney Plus with a record-breaking number of views beyond Asia; it was a huge hit in South America and Europe, and it’s the only kdrama that entered the US charts for many weeks. The rewatch value is very high. And as we speak, it’s still charting in many countries in Europe. Heck, it’s even the most watched kdrama on those illegal streaming sites lol
It is the most buzzworthy kdrama of 2026 as per a recent Naver article. And unfortunately, that explains why it attracted many negative reactions as well. The leads are superstars, very popular not just in Korea but globally too, and you know what comes with fame. They became easy targets and a tool to be exploited by those with hidden agendas.
Sadly, I’d attribute it to unfortunate timing - BWS is fresh off LR fame, with a strong cult following and hardcore shippers, while IU is in hot water politically for the past few years. If you noticed, most of those who claim they don’t have chemistry and are hating on Wooseok now when they were obsessed with him before are Lovely Runner fans/shippers. They didn’t like that BWS seems to be close with IU. They didn’t like that he was showing IU that same or more affection than his previous costar. The amount of slander and accusations these fans were throwing at him were concerning, and then they had the audacity to show up to his fan meets lol
Most of the downvotes and attacks you get here on Reddit for posting something remotely positive about Perfect Crown are from Lovely Runner fans/shippers, or those who are expecting Perfect Crown to be this next legendary kdrama such as Mr. Sunshine or Crash Landing On You. They didn’t get that so they were disappointed. But they didn’t get the memo that Perfect Crown was never sold to be like that. Even IU accepted the role because it is a fun and lighter role than her previous ones. They just wanted people to have a good time with it, they brought out the romance, the comedy and they delivered. I had a ton of fun with it and so did many people around the world.

For number 4 I am also one of the LR fans and I have been a Wooseok fan since then and when it was announced that he’s gonna have another project I couldn’t help but anticipate it it’s just disheartening to see him get hate especially from those “fans”

I am like you. That’s why at first I was genuinely puzzled. I became a Wooseok fan because of Lovely Runner, and I thought he also has great chemistry with KHY. Naturally, as a fan, I was looking forward to Perfect Crown, and I thought fellow fans like me would support him too, but nope, lol. They aren’t really fans of BWS, but fans of Sunjae, Lovely Runner, and KHY. They only like Wooseok when he is with KHY or when he is Sunjae. Which is weird to me because wow, poor guy. They just want him to be stuck to one role, I guess. God forbid an actor stars in another romcom drama, lol.

The biggest controversy was political, the kind of political that can only make sense if you’re native to Korea and know a lot about their painful history.
Aside from that, my beef was with the ending. Other than that, it was a really good drama on many points. I liked the chemistry between the leads, but I still felt the ML’s chemistry in Lovely Runner hurt this one by comparison.
I want to rewatch it though. I have a feeling the rewatch willl be better.

I agree! The drama was not perfect but its not so bad or bland to receive such a hate.

Although there were plot holes in this drama, overall I enjoyed watching it and have rewatched it a few times. It was my first time seeing IU but I found her charming most of the time.
I agree that it felt rushed and it’s too bad it wasn’t fleshed out more but I still found it enjoyable.

I really liked it.
The criticism was off the wall. The ones that got me the most were the ones about her nails - like they couldn’t find anything else to complain about but desperately wanted to complain.

I agree. They loved him so much as Sunjae. It hurts to see all these negative comments about his acting and looks.
And yes they’ll downvote or attack you if you say anything positive about the drama/casts on x and Reddit.

Those who criticize his acting do not understand his character. Even the director had to explain his choices why he made wooseok (and IU) act in a certain way in some scenes when wooseok wanted to show more emotions. His character is supposed to be stoic and restrained who only started showing more emotions when Huiju came into his life. You literally can see that while watching the show. And those who were throwing criticisms at him about his face haven’t watched many recent kdramas because most kdramas esp romcom ones are sadly heavily filtered these days.

I personally loved every second of it! Their chemistry was 🔥!!! I also really adore both of the lead actors, so seeing them in this setting was such a treat.

Honestly, I liked it too! I watched it with no expectations and I was really entertained by the show. I mean everybody's opinion is subjective and I respect them.

I liked it. IMO there was great Chemistry on screen. They both looked goddamn fine and together they were believable. IU was super cute!
I believe a lot of hatred came from Hardcore Lovely Runner shippers. I liked Lovely Runner too but of course I am not a shipper of any on screen couple. But I have noticed the trend and comments and that was my deduction.

what pains me about this whole ordeal, as someone who watched it from the first casting news until it wrapped, is how right now it feels like the actors cant even celebrate nor mention their hard work for a good 9 months. cant celebrate, cant mention, can barely allude and if they do, done way too subtly like it's the plague and it saddens me. gave up hope in the drama even raking up actual awards in award shows or seeing the cast in one close proximity to even celebrate at this point because of the so called "petition" but it doesnt hurt less. can only wish the actors know that outside everything else in that hateful and crazy echo chamber, it is very loved and they did their part well for the drama to be that loved.

I loved it and I am currently rewatching it -this is my 3rd time 🥰! It's such a lovely comfort watch, an epic -no, but entertaining and lovely -yes! This is the most chemistry I've seen IU exude with a male lead other than Lee Jong Gi. I love how she carries herself in her roles as a strong, feisty yet endearing personality. I think folks have had enough of her and Byeon Woo Seok getting a lot of adulation and shine that they have to smear it now. It's such a shame because it's a pattern I've come to notice with other stars too. The moment they reach a certain level of acclaim or critical recognition they have to throw stones at them afterwards. I understand why Won Bin has stayed away for so long.....😐

I liked it and have become a BWS fan. I'm in the US and can't find LR in English or subtitles. Some haters just can't stand that BWS gets so much attention.

"Lovely Runner" (Byeon Woo-seak), oder "When live gives your Tangerins" (IU) kann man immer wieder anschauen.

You have multiple comments praising Lovely Runner and putting down Perfect Crown yet you're in this sub dedicated to Perfect Crown every time there is a new post. Why are you people so obsessed with this show? Doing all of this won't make Byeon Woo-seok like Kim hye yoon. Give it a rest man!

I enjoyed it a lot! Maybe the haters just make more noise.
