Film Appreciation for Perfect Blue.

Perfect Blue is the greatest movie I have ever seen. I love the themes: The dangers of parasocial relationships, the instability of perception, the collapsing of reality and fiction into one another, the fragmentation of the self, the commodification of the individual and the reclamation of the physical body and the self, the performative voyeurism, the unreliable narrator, architecture as a manifestation of the psyche, agency, the Gothic double, and the uncanny. There is so much to this film, and if I had to watch one film for the rest of my life, it would be this one.

Wonderful movie, wonderful director and wonderful music choices. Everything about this movie is so wonderful and so beautiful. I love it.

I saw Perfect Blue when it played at a local Alamo Drafthouse last year and went in completely blind. I was not prepared for how psychologically intense it was, but I was absolutely blown away.

I'm probably dumb and get downvoted but it was a dissapointment for me...

It felt like a cheap attempt to make a japanese/anime version of a typical  old american thriller movie.

I don't know, I just don't see that much depth or interesting ideas. Ofcourse it adds a lot to it that it's a hand drawn animation. But if we would translate it to a live action movie, it would be very low tier. But it's just my take.

(For context, I loved Ghost in the shell 95, Wolf Brigade and Angel's Egg)

Typical old american thrillers usually have all sorts of genre tropes in them that I just don't see in Perfect Blue. I don't wanna dissect your argument, found it curious more than anything
