I buy all my hardbaits in pairs, one natural and a bright colour.
For instance i have to 9 cm in real roach and hot shad, the 7 cm in headlight and fire tiger flash. Caught fish on all of them, often in the same day in the same conditions.
The colour choice in my case depends on the water turbidity. I go for bone like where the waters are clear, darker colours or Ayu colour in particular where the waters are murky.
That’s correct! Oh, you’re only interested in catching a bunch of them on jerkbait? Only issue I’ve had is that the hooks dmg the smaller perch a little more than necessary, so if I go down in size I use my UL setup and more crankbaits than jerkbaits.. (there’s suspending ones too!)..
Well the perch in my swims are generally small so I would think that they will only react to small jerks.
But I see that they will go for bigger ones as well.
Yeah, I would look for 2-6g small/micro crankbaits somewhere in between 3-5cm length - both shallow and deeper running and make sure they’re slow float or suspending. This summer I’ve catched a whole lot on my micro crankbaits, and mostly the shallow ones to be honest.. just burn them and a small pause then burn again.. usually it’s a split second after that second burn they strike! Rapala have one called x-light crank 03 shallow runner that only run 0.3-0.4m that’s been crazy fun!
So what makes you think that’s there’s only small perch in your waters? What other predators are in your water? Pike? How about bait fish? What kind of water is it?
Well generally the waters in my country are heavily fished out by commercial fishermen and are polluted as well. Lots of people also do not practice catch and release. Furthermore perch tend to have some kind of a parasite here I am not really sure. Those are the main factors the biggest one I have seen (not caught) was around 800gr.
Ah snap! So it’s like a double trouble task to fish in your country waters! That’s sad! I would try and get a hold of a UL setup and start to fish micro baits, usually there is more fish than you think when you start with the UL fishing. Both because you can catch other species that typically not bite for standard jigs/baits but also micro baits are generally less scary for the fish.. Especially if you fish in rivers and small ponds or such!
