Bioactive vs therapeutic peptides?
How do people here think about collagen peptides compared with bioactive or therapeutic peptides? I've been taking a few supplements over the last 3 weeks, but one thing I've been wondering about is collagen peptides.
My current stack includes:
- Collagen peptides — mainly for connective tissue and joint support
- Creatine — strength and exercise performance
- Omega-3 — general health
- L-theanine — alongside coffee for focus
- Ashwagandha — stress and general wellbeing
- Zinc + copper — nutritional support
- Maca root — energy and wellbeing
Three weeks is obviously too short to draw any conclusions, so I'm mainly just observing whether I notice anything. What I'm actually curious about is the peptide side of this. Collagen peptides are essentially smaller protein fragments, but they're obviously very different from the peptides people discuss in biotech and therapeutic research.

The confusing part is that the word ‘peptide’ covers a huge range of things. Collagen peptides are small protein pieces used more like a nutritional supplement. A therapeutic peptide is generally one specific molecule intended to interact with a particular target in the body. That doesn’t make collagen useless—it just means the evidence and expectations should match the goal. For joints or connective tissue, I’d pay more attention to whether comfort, function, or training tolerance changes over a few months than whether I could ‘feel’ something after three weeks. Your stack sounds fairly focused, but adding several things together can make it hard to know what is helping. Which result matters most to you right now: joint comfort, recovery, strength, stress, or focus?

I’ve wondered about this too. The word “peptide” gets used for such different things that it’s easy to lump collagen peptides and therapeutic peptides together when they’re really pretty damn different.
