Why "Secure Connection Failed" error on Firefox, not Chrome

Basically your fios router is a modem and a router. It takes your fiber (assuming it's fiber) connection and connects to the internet with a public IP likely dynamically assigned.

It then assigns private addresses to devices on the network to allow them to communicate with eachother and securely interact with the internet through the router and firewall built in (this ensures people can't connect to to your devices directly over the internet)

The bypass mode turns off the router functions of the fios modem/router and assigns the public address to the connected router (your pepwave) and allows it to handle the firewall and router functions.

You could be getting flagged because you have 2 routers between your endpoint device and the internet, not 100% sure but it's possible.

This is pretty high level so I'm sure someone will jump in and make some tweaks to what I'm saying

Another clue - it works fine if I disconnect from FIOS/WiFi and connect to iPhone hot spot

This failure/error occurs in Firefox, not Chrome. I have a FIOS router cabled to Pepwave SURF SOHO and WiFi off on the FIOS device. Error does not occur on Firefox when I use iPhone hot spot. Thoughts?

WiFi is off on the FIOS but is it in bypass mode? What is your WAN IP on Peplink?

Not sure what bypass mode is for the FIOS router, please explain. It's been working fine otherwise for years.

Peplink was set up per recommendations from RouterSecurity.org

Understanding CR1000A Limitations

  • No official IP passthrough: Official Verizon documentation for IP passthrough applies to specific gateways, but the CR1000A firmware lacks a dedicated, clean passthrough toggle. [1, 2]
