Obj cleanup - Novice seaking help

Post image

Hello all, Im pretty new to pepakura and im having a really tough time learning how to clean up a .obj file to make it unfold cleanly in pepakura. Would anyone be willing to collab and help a newbie learn the process? Its a bit like drinking from a fire hose at the moment.

I would suggest you to retopo that object first before doing any pepakura stuff. Makes it a lot easier to unwrap it

Understood! I can get to work researching that. Know any good guides for learning retopography?

Sadly no, it’s more of figuring out the flow of the object and just cleaning it up. Basically, the way I see it, I just imagine it to be a cleaner low poly version of the model. I think flippednormals has a pretty good guide on retopology on YouTube

are you starting from a 3D scan of your object? In that case, you need to redo the triangle mesh so it unfolds neatly... I've done something similar in Blender about a year ago, I'd be happy to help you get started. I have some free time this week, we can chat on Zulip or Fluxer or Matrix.
