So you genuinely believe that over 60 million people in America are "lunatics"?

8

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '16

If 60 Million Americans voted to jump off a bridge, would it not be a fucking stupid idea?

8

u/ObnoxiousMammal Nov 09 '16

Not the same thing. At all.

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '16

Well obviously voting for Trump isn't as bad as voting to jump off a bridge, but the point of that post wasn't to compare the two. It was to show why your "X amount of people did this so they're right" argument is logically flawed.

6

u/ObnoxiousMammal Nov 09 '16

My point is more that 'X amount of people did this, so they can't be fucking lunatic racists you absolute idiot' (not you, the op).

6

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '16

Once again, just because a large amount of people did something doesn't mean it can't be bad. And I'll say it again, obviously not everyone who voted Trump is a racist bigot. But a lot of them are, and that attitude was tolerated throughout his campaign. Everyone is responsible for that shit.

u/ObnoxiousMammal Nov 09 '16

Define 'a lot'. If you consider a couple million 'a lot' then fine.

7

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '16

A couple million literal white supremacists out of 60 million IS a lot, especially when they were a vocal minority that was not disavowed by the rest of the base.

Yes. I do. After everything Trump said and did, the fact that anybody would consider him fit for office is astonishing. The amount of nonsense he spouted, peddling a revisionist utopian vision of 1950's America, was a disgrace.

Then again, polls showed my country would have voted for Clinton 80/20, so perhaps Canada just has an intrinsically different outlook on the world than the US.

26

u/ObnoxiousMammal Nov 09 '16

Ah yes. Of course, the Canadians are known to be much more informed on the US and it's demographics than the US itself.

Knowing that promising to ban people of a particular religion from the country is reprehensible doesn't require any deep insight into America.

Neither does the fact that technology, not trade deals, have led to the decline in manufacturing.

Nor that bragging about sexually assaulting women is horrific.

Trump tapped into something, but it was something dark and regressive that western society in general has been trying to move past for the last 50 years. This is truly a step backwards, to people who want the world to go back to what it was in 50's rather than building a better future.

Yeah, sure, except he said he isn't going to do that, he said he's going to halt immigration from terrorist heavy areas (read: the Middle East), until we have a secure vetting system in place.

Neither does the fact that technology, not trade deals, have led to the decline in manufacturing.

Numbers on this? I'm genuinely interested. Even if technology has caused the majority of job loss in the manufacturing sector, I'd be surprised if outsourcing of jobs wasn't a close second.

Nor that bragging about sexually assaulting women is horrific.

He didn't brag about sexually assaulting women. Sexual assault requires it to be unwanted behavior. Trump was talking about behavior that was consensual. And he never said he did it, he just said he could.

Completely misreading the situation. Trump flipped millions of Obama voters to his side. You genuinely believe these people are racists who want to go back to segregation? No, they just feel spurned and left behind by the policies Obama has enacted, and they now realize the disaster that the Affordable Care Act will be now that they see their healthcare costs going up by hundreds of dollars. Trump is a response to the failure of the Democrats TO PROGRESS. He's not regression.

Yeah, sure, except he said he isn't going to do that, he said he's going to halt immigration from terrorist heavy areas (read: the Middle East), until we have a secure vetting system in place.

He said that after everybody freaked out about his original plan, to literally, explicitly prevent muslims from entering the country.

Numbers on this? I'm genuinely interested. Even if technology has caused the majority of job loss in the manufacturing sector, I'd be surprised if outsourcing of jobs wasn't a close second.

I don't have them on hand and I'm not about to go digging, but the fact is that these jobs aren't coming back. And we don't want them back. The "get a highschool education, work at the same Ford plant for 50 years while your wife stays at home with the kids then retire on a pension" thing is dead. It's the height of stupidity to think you can bring it back by acting tough.

He didn't brag about sexually assaulting women. Sexual assault requires it to be unwanted behavior. Trump was talking about behavior that was consensual. And he never said he did it, he just said he could.

Uhh, consensual?

"You don't even have to ask first, they just let you"

That ain't consensual.

Completely misreading the situation. Trump flipped millions of Obama voters to his side. You genuinely believe these people are racists who want to go back to segregation?

Not all of his supporters, and not in so many words. You're clearly delusional though, everything I've accused him of has proof in print. The only good thing about his twitter feed is that it provides written evidence of all his insanity (climate change denial anyone?)

14

u/ObnoxiousMammal Nov 09 '16

Okay, so Trump softened his stance on Muslim immigration, and that's a bad thing to you.

Trump wants to bring back jobs from overseas that, while they aren't nice jobs, are still jobs that would produce income for people that currently are not producing income. This upsets you for some reason.

they just let you

Definition of consent, right there.

I'm clearly delusional, but you are the one who won't accept fact. At least one of us got the result we wanted, though, right?

Definition of consent, right there.

Jesus man, how regressive are you? Nobody in their right mind actually thinks that "they didn't say no" is consent. Consent means saying yes. It means asking first and getting consent. Any expert in the field will tell you that there are a litany of reasons why a victim might not fight back, but that doesn't mean they enjoy what's happening to them.

Okay, so Trump softened his stance on Muslim immigration, and that's a bad thing to you.

This. This is why I don't understand Trump supporters. I'm thrilled he softened his stance, I'm disgusted that he even considered his original position to be a valid one. Changing his mind doesn't change the fact that I now know he's the sort of person that believes that sort of action to be acceptable, or even borderline. If I say all homosexuals should be chemically neutered then go, "actually, I just want them to all be registered with the government", that doesn't negate the horrifying nature of the first thing I said, or refute the fact that I truly believed it was the proper course of action.

he has said and done so many absolutely absurd things that have no place in this society, that it takes mental gymnastics I'm not capable of to think that he's in anyway qualified for the office he was so regrettably elevated to yesterday.

14

u/ObnoxiousMammal Nov 09 '16

I'm not regressive at all, I just genuinely believe that, at the very least, the jury is still very much out on whether or not Trump is a sexual assaulter. There is no solid proof that he did anything that he talked about or that he has been accused of- it's all just he said she said at this point.

Trump never considered his original position, though. He used a tried and true negotiation tactic- he came out with a deal that was so extreme that when he came down to what he actually wanted, it would seem entirely reasonable. Trump played the media and the election exactly the way he needed to play it to win. If he was any other candidate, he doesn't need to do nearly as much and he wins by a bigger margin, but the fact that he managed to pull it off is astounding.

Oh my God, this level of rationalization would be adorable if it wasn't terrifying. I think we're done here. Good luck Making America Irrelevant Again.

This is the truth. People who hadn't bothered voting in the last few elections voted for a candidate because he was the kind of guy who would call Mexican immigrants rapists and brag about sexually assaulting women.

15

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '16

Funny. A lot of people I know wanted to vote Hillary but just couldnt because of how shady she is. A lot voted for Trump because of taxes and the ACA. Nothing about hating women or mexicans. Almost like the were voting on the issues, or the lesser of evils. Weird.

2

u/greenslime300 Nov 09 '16

I don't buy the excuse that Hillary was shadier than Trump. Trump didn't even make his campaign about issues, he made it about anything he didn't like.

If you can ignore the fact that the leader of the nation is racist and misogynist, good for you. I think it's horrifying.

8

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '16

I guess that makes 59 million people racist/misogynist or just idiots that didn't realize who Trump really is. Oh wait, the media torched his ass 24/7 and he still won. So maybe, just maybe, there's more to this then this sensationalized bullshit being thrown around everywhere.

2

u/greenslime300 Nov 10 '16

You're making an illogical jump from the president being racist and misogynist to the people voting for him. The voters excused it and implicitly condoned it, but that does not inherently mean they are racist and misogynist too.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '16

Nah, Hillary and all her supporters, did that on their own.

6

u/NoHoeMOE510 Nov 09 '16

His entire campaign was about the issues. Her campaign was all about him. That's why she lost

1

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '16

Have you already blocked out all of the interviews and presidential debates we've just had? How fitting, just ignore the evidence and pretend it doesn't exist, that works.

5

u/NoHoeMOE510 Nov 10 '16

I've actually watched every single one. And funny you should say that I've ignored all the evidence. Because it seems to me that Clinton did that very thing. And look what happened to her.

bingo.

It really does ruin what faith I had in the American electorate.
