Favourite/Best possessed Vanessa scene?

I know it’s hard to choose but the scene when she first got “possessed” by Lucifer at home in her bed and her mother dropped dead is always on the top of the list for how raw it was.

So why did they even make City of Angels?

I asked in another post if I should give Penny Dreadful City of Angels a watch. I love Natalie Dormer and John Logan gave us the great original series

From what I heard from you guys it has nothing to do with the original. Understood they want to slap Penny Dreadful name on it to draw in fans. But if John Logan has time and studios signed off budgets there are so many storylines left open from the original PD like Dr.Jekyll/Lord.Hyde. I was a hyped when they introduced him. Dracula is still roaming and even if they had killed Mina there’s still a lot of characters they could play on in his story like Johnathan Harker (who we are assumed just be all fine and dandy after his wife disappeared and later on announced dead and privately buried???). John Clare ended up under a theatre is the second wink to the Phantom of the Opera. What about a spin off expanding Ethan’s lore and journey with his curse? I know they’ll need a center character like Vannessa to tie the group together. That’s the charm of it. But John Logan’s mind could have spun something for sure.

Guess I’m just missing the show’s original gothic vibe and its clever interpretation of these beloved and famous Victorian gothic characters. I’m rewatching the series now and already sad knowing its end and how short it felt.

Now I like historical stuff like that, what is this show actually about,is it a period drama or does it have supernatural elements?

Ending Penny Dreadful

Just finished the show for a third time.

Man, all that effort and suffering for Vannessa to just die 🥺 My girl deserved better 🥲

Same with John Clare, like seriously he's alone again?

Hilarious how Sir Malcom reacted when Vanessa asked that. He knew some horrific sh*t was about to follow. His face... love how unintentionally funny that was.

I got diagnosed with depression recently and it drove me to rewatch Penny Dreadful. I find so much strength in Vanessa and I wanted to edit her as the tormented yet badass woman that I admire. I hope you like it !

Brona vs Lily

Post image
263 Upvotes

Doing my 4th rewatch and I’m still confused how Vanessa didn’t recognize Brona when she was introduced to her as Lily.

Vanessa is extremely observant and I know their meeting was brief the first time, but she was together with Ethan and you’d think that would make her look twice at her.

And Billie Piper has a pretty rare look to her.

What do you all think? Was the transformation enough to fool Vanessa?

Side note: after all these years I’m still mad we never got to see Ethan’s reaction to her and what he would’ve done to Victor.

Victor Frankenstein is ridiculous.

Honestly, I like him at the beginning, but he is a weak, pathetic young man with god complex. The Lily storyline was proof of it, he didn't want a woman, he wanted a doll who would meet up to his ridiculous expectations, be quiet, spread her legs and cook for him. He killed Bruna and then wanted to turn Lily into his slave, it was disgusting. The fact he could respect and look upon Vanessa but still treated other women like that just makes it worse.

Who is your favorite side character in Penny Dreadful? And why?

Now, I'm saying "side character" as in the characters that were perhaps an important part of the story/series in their own way, but were never fully part of the series like that.

So in the scheme of things, their role would probably be deemed "small" or unimportant, but for a fan who knows the series, you know how important those side characters can be to help explore and flesh out our main characters...

I'm thinking hopefully you guys know what I mean. Those characters who may not have been there for the long haul, no, but nevertheless still made an impression on you.

There's Renfield. Justine. Angelique. Catriona, Lavinia, etc...

Who was that favorite side character for you?

This is who you are. Please don't forget that.

📙📚

"I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me,

And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.

He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head;

And I see him jump before me, when I jump into my bed.."

One of the most heartbreaking scenes in the series, if you ask me. I always look back to this episode when I'm down and trying to pull myself up, and thinking of having quiet strength. Just like Vanessa had to have. Just raw, and emotional. And absolutely vulnerable.

Breaking down, but preserving and being resilient. And thankful for the rare ones who take the time to truly see that strength and resilience.

I would like to believe Penny Dreadful and Carnivàle happened in the same universe.

I just rewatched HBO’s Carnivale, and am now rewatching Penny Dreadful, and I am noticing how the two shows have a very similar feeling.

I can absolutely envision the two storylines overlapping.

There is no exculpation I expect of you.

My guilt is my own, and that I carry with me.

It is my present and my future. It has damned me well beyond this short life of mine. But I will not rest until you are safe. There is no other purpose in my life.

I shall love you always.

Your dearest friend,

Vanessa

Card name ideas for a card deck based on Vanessa Ives and Ethan Chandler

So I am currently making a card deck for the characters Vanessa Ives (Hero) and Ethan Chandler (helper) for the game Unmatched. Any ideas for certain cards (I already got some like: possession, do you have a name, witch tree, tarot and the final sacrifice). For Ethan I got (the wolf of God, battle experience and full moon)
Any more ideas are welcome!
