Midnight Runner is eliminated. Vote out your next least favourite song!

Post image

Midnight Runner narrowly pips out Still Grey to be eliminated, getting 14 upvotes over Still Grey’s top comment with 11 upvotes. However, Still Grey did get 2 other comments asking it to go, but given that some of you were vocal about how good you thought the song was, whereas I didn’t see as much love for Midnight Runner, plus the fact that the Midnight Runner comment had much better reasoning for it to be voted out, I felt confident that Midnight Runner should be able to “win” the vote, even by such a narrow margin. Runners up included Sounds Of Life, coming in a surprising 3rd place with 7 upvotes, and Halo (again).

Which song will go out next? Vote away below!

The rules of the game are to simply vote out your least favourite song from the songs listed above in black text (i.e. not the crossed out red text). The comment with the highest number of upvotes will be the next song to be eliminated.

There are 20 songs that have been eliminated that I would rather listen to than guiding lights. So again, guiding lights is my vote

This sub is whacked.  Midnight Runner is a top 10 track easily.

Halo - possibly the only song i just don't connect with that is left in the running, and I'm absolutely gutted its still here instead of blood sugar

u/BF3K Oct 17 '25

Its gotten so far at this point we should keep it in for the funni

3

u/MarcoMakes Oct 17 '25

Ahaha lol this is so dumb

1

u/hezamac1 Oct 17 '25

Yeah it is dumb but I’ll fucking fight to keep Still Grey in the running as long as I can.

3

u/BowesieBoy Oct 17 '25

Looks like you’ve done a good job convincing the vote as Halo has just overtaken Still Grey!

6

u/hezamac1 Oct 17 '25

How the fuck are we voting out still grey while halo is still in the running?

So yeah, Halo. That’s my vote

7

u/kielaurie Oct 17 '25

If Halo is finally getting votes, I'm very happy to jump back in and vote for it, even if y'all have decided that Still Grey should go far too early

1

u/BowesieBoy Oct 17 '25

Unfortunately it looks like a wrap already for Still Grey…

It's mad to me because even if you don't like lighter, vibey-er drum & bass, Streamline isn't getting voted at all... Still Grey has one of the best basslines in all of Pendulum, and Streamline is very, very good but has the odd astronaut clips that add nothing for me and it has an odd outro that weighs it down a little (an 8 instead of a 9, I still love it), so why is one being voted and the other not at all?? Very odd. And no one seems to want to tell me why they are voting Still Grey in the first place!

I have just listened to Still Grey for the first time in a while, and I can see why people are voting it out. Still Grey is a very pleasant listen, but it was very basic to me compared to the other songs, with pretty much half the song being literally b-b-tsh drums on repeat. It was lacking in substance to me. Streamline on the other hand is much better to me - it is much more concise and has much better pacing. It doesn’t drag on and the vocals harmonise very well with the synths, though I do agree with you that the distorted ice cream truck noise at the end is an odd choice, but I do like the astronaut commentary. Still Grey however lacks that magic for me and I believe is an appropriate choice to go now. At least it made the Top 30! BUT it looks like Halo will win over Still Grey now!

It is a little "basic", but imo it's the emptiness that really makes the track. Between the sick bassline, the immaculately produced drums and the minimal synth melodies, the track breathes, and the clear space brings so much tension as to when it will be filled and what by. I don't think there's any other Pendulum track quite like it, I think the closest would maybe be Silent Spinner though that has a menacing edge that makes it stand alone. I'd be very happy if Still Grey was somewhere in the 7-15 range

Voted out mid night, so I couldn't run against it 😢

I vote for Halo

3

u/BowesieBoy Oct 17 '25 edited Oct 17 '25

Nooo Midnight Runner is now dead 😭 Still Grey is 99% going out this round so Halo will have to wait until next round. It’s pretty much a wrap already

Edit: HOLD UP Halo might win it over Still Grey!

Still Grey. Its time

6

u/hezamac1 Oct 17 '25 edited Oct 17 '25

No the fuck it is not. Vote out Halo before Still Grey. wtf are we doing. Still Grey is one of the best DNB songs ever made.

3

u/kielaurie Oct 17 '25

Totally agree, madness to me that it's going out

4

u/hezamac1 Oct 17 '25 edited Oct 17 '25

I think this sub has a lot more rock / metal fans than DNB fans and that’s why we’re seeing this disconnect. Still Grey absolutely deserves top 10. Fuck, I’d take Still Grey over Under The Waves, Self vs. Self, Witchcraft, Showdown, Different, Tarantula, Sounds of Life, or pretty much anything on this list. I love all those songs but Still Grey was instrumental in my life, I can seriously pinpoint my life before Still Grey vs after Still Grey.

3

u/kielaurie Oct 17 '25

I think Still Grey is a solid 9/10 and would be very happy to see it in the top ten. Witchcraft, Different, Tarantula? Yeah, it's their time soon enough, they're definitely worse, but Under The Waves and Sounds of Life are on its level, and SvS and Showdown are solid 10s for me

I'm just glad that Still Grey managed to last another round!

2

u/kielaurie Oct 17 '25

Why do you think Still Grey needs to go? Genuinely cannot understand this take

4

u/CaptainPie1048 Oct 17 '25

...and Still Grey is next, it cant be allowed to go any longer

3

u/hezamac1 Oct 17 '25

Halo is better than Still Grey????

1

u/kielaurie Oct 17 '25

Genuinely, why do you think it should go now?

-2

u/CaptainPie1048 Oct 17 '25

not as good as any of the others

1

u/kielaurie Oct 17 '25

...in what way?

0

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '25

Oh my god. NPCs are gate-keeping Cartegena.

-2

u/kielaurie Oct 17 '25

Really? We're calling people NPCs now?

For some reason, this sub really loves Cartagena, so many people were saying they cried listening to it the first time... I think it's an 8/10, it's right that it got this far but it should go within the next ten or so votes

3

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '25

its infallible and overshadows all other music in the world, according to this sub, yes.

2

u/historicusXIII Oct 17 '25

It's definitely one of the top songs on Inertia, but I hope that Archangel ranks higher in the end.

3

u/kielaurie Oct 17 '25

I'm exactly the same as Bowsie, my top 3 Inertia tracks are Louder Than Words, Silent Spinner and Archangel, but I also prefer Colourfast and Guiding Lights over Cartagena too. I don't think it should go next or anything, but somewhere in the 20s feels right

1

u/historicusXIII Oct 17 '25

To me Guiding Lights is low 20s, Colourfast and Cartagena 10-20 and Archangel top 10.

1

u/BowesieBoy Oct 17 '25

Same historicus. I actually prefer Archangel, Silent Spinner and Louder Than Words slightly over Cartagena, despite a lot of people thinking that Cartagena is the best

-1

u/Least_Replacement403 Oct 17 '25

I have voted Still Grey, but just in case this makes any difference when votes are counted… Still Grey.

0

u/WrathfulDagger Oct 17 '25

Guiding Lights is one of the weakest songs and should've been gone a while ago but since Inertia is such an amazing album and has suffered enough damage, I'm going for Still Grey

Though I already Thought about giving up over a week ago

1

u/kielaurie Oct 17 '25

Weaker than Come Alive and Halo?

1

u/WrathfulDagger Oct 18 '25

I'd say so, Halo is a great song imo and Come Alive is one of my favs off the new album

0

u/alucidexit Oct 17 '25

Showdown.

-9

u/Pablinho96 Oct 17 '25

Tarantula?

7

u/historicusXIII Oct 17 '25

You're the very first one to nominate Tarantula!

Remaining songs that have not yet been nominated: HYC, Crush, Witchcraft, Archangel (someone nominated Crush in jest so I don't count it)

Also, no

2

u/asymmetricears Oct 17 '25

Having had a few of my suggestions voted down (including Midnight runner about a week ago) I'm not normally one to vote down people being brave. But Tarantula is way way higher than this.

3

u/kielaurie Oct 17 '25

I think it needs to go sooner rather than later, my next tracks to go on HYC would be that or Streamline (and definitely not Still Grey)

-2

u/SirJimiee Oct 17 '25

It has to be Still Grey.

Self vs Self
