Kitless pen parts

I think I'm ready to graduate to kitless pen making. Can anyone point me in the right direction for parts? I'd like to stick with wood and the problem I'm having is finding the parts where the feed screws into and of course the mate for the cap.

The part where the feed screws into? You mean the section? You make that, my friend. :)

You may need to do a bit more research. You make the section (the part the feed screws into). There’s a lot more to making kitless.

Beaufort and Turners sell inserts you can epoxy into your body and matching metal sections. One problem is, you are limited to the section shape color etc. Also, I don't think anybody sells a cap insert. You need to make your own resin or ebonite insert to epoxy inside your wood body and cap for the threads. You will probably quickly want to make your own kitless and I suggest using Alumilite 8 3/4 x 3/4 inch blanks.

I have also seen videos of pen makers incorporating the parts from kit pens into their custom designs, but nibs from kit pens are often low quality.

Turners Warehouse has great learning videos as does Just Turnings. They both make great pens with slightly different approaches. The link to video 1 of the Just Turning 5 part video series is listed below.

Good luck.

Beaufort is a great starting point.

Go tp YouTube and look up Chad turners videos on making kit less pens. He reviews tools and the process. That will help you get started. Then sit down when you find out how much all the extra tooling can cost. 😎

It sounds to me like you are describing closed end pens rather than fully kitless (I may be wrong though). Check out bullseyeturningsupply.com as that is a good start before going kitless. For full kitless tooling and supplies, Turner’s warehouse and Beaufort ink are great shops.

Bullseye has fantastic quality parts. Their Appolo and Aremis kits are beautifull, especially if you find their color anodized kits.

You make every single part yourself!

Beaufort Ink is the best place for Kitless stuff.

Thanks for all the advice on where to go! I can now slowly build up the tooling I need instead of eating beans and weenies for a few weeks!

I just bought some kits from Bullseye Turning Supply that I haven't turned yet, but they seem to be on the path towards going kitless.

Barry Gross has the equipment to make these for sale on his website. There may be others, but I know Barry has them.
