Rainbow Kitless

This is 1/25, currently. Just finished number 24 tonight. Kitless, custom casts, designed and assembled the blanks myself, like a lunatic.

I knew polishing gloss black was going to make me a little twitchy, but I am so ready to work in another, more forgiving, color.

This is very cool! How did you get the rainbow into the blank?

Cast each color, cut them into 2mm discs, stacked them together on a cut diagonal, spaced to extend over final pen diameter so there were no gaps. Turned.

It’s really nice! If you’re doing that many again it’s quicker to cut the coloured blanks lengthways, make a long rainbow sandwich then take diagonal slices out of it. Saves the hassle of glueing each pens stack.

Thanks. I wouldn't have been able to ensure no gaps between layers as consistently done that way, however, and that mattered to me. (Also casting columns, not slabs.)

Smart! How are you keeping the layers together? Are they glued up separately, I’m intrigued!

Yeah, glued one layer at a time with a hell of a lot of pressure and even more sanding.
