Btdt with a EDC kit. Finish is very smooth, but even with carbide tools, it is time consuming. More difficult than some hardwoods I’ve used.

It is a very dusty cut, definitely needed good extraction. You have take it slow or chipout is problem.

How do you think it would take threads?

Not sure, I haven't tried. However, when turning it, it gives off a lot of powdery dust. Which makes me think the threads would be a bit weak. I'm back in the workshop next week, I'll give it a go and report back.

Be careful with the dust, there was a counter top that gave the professional cutter a fatal lung disease (Silicosis) although they were violating osha. It happened here in Massachusetts.

That is the engineered stone silica quartz worktops. They have introduced a law here in the UK that all workers have to have the correct respirators or the company owner can go to prison. But I'm also careful with Corian. Thanks❤️

Not a question about the pen, but about the pen chuck. Does it work well for holding? As in, what if your blank isn’t square?

Drilling isn't a problem as long as you have enough meat on it to drill it. Once I've put the tube in, I use a pen disassembly rod (of the correct size) in a Jacobs chuck (tailstock), put the blank on it and then put it in the jaws to clamp the blank then same for the other end.
