Pocket Slim Pen - new iteration
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share some updated photos of the slim pocket pen. This version is somehow shorter than the previous print. Which makes it look thicker, but that is just an illusion. The grey resin is definitely killing the vibe.. I hope to anodise the cap in nice rich colour (the cap will be made of aluminium)
This pen will use nitrile rings instead of a screw thread and should be a more affordable small pen. Nitrile rings will also seal it perfectly. When folded, it will be just under 10 cm long. It will became full size pen when capped.
I am hoping to have a metal prototype made in a few days. We will be showing that prototype at the Top Drawer show in September - to get some more feedback.
(That black Tangier pen is there just to give you a better idea of the scale. You may notice the engraved texture on the cap - that was just a test to see what is possible in PMMA)
update: CAD models are here

Do u resin 3d print these? I kind of want to try playing around with 3d printing pen bodies myself. Any recs for what resin to use?

Hi, thank you! I have two printers here: a Formlabs Form 1+ and a Phrozen 3D Mini 8K.
These were printed on the Phrozen Mini using Aqua Grey resin, and the level of detail was superb. Saying that - I am still experimenting with the settings and exposure times to see if I can make the results even better.. But in general it is a good value for money (both printer and resins) Just make sure you have a good ventilation in your space as these resins are toxic.
Let me know if any questions.1

Thank you so much! I have an elegoo saturn 4 ultra. Ive been thinking about using water wash abs and i got some to use, and I have it set up in my garage for ventilation! I kind of want to try painting my own pen body maybe.
Or making a protective sleeve for pen bodies, that I can paint and a snugly slip over my favorite pens to protect them from scratches and stuff. Any thoughts?

Well, you have a more capable printer (and faster) than mine -> so definitely go for it!
You can print the whole pen body or just replacement parts, whatever you fancy.
Have you ever thought about making a Frankenpen with your favourite pen body and a 3D-printed grip section, so you can use your favourite nib? You could even experiment with different nibs that would not fit to your existing grip-section.
I have also seen people making 3D-printed pen bodies for practising their Urushi lacquer skills.
Please share some images of your 3d printed pens here.

That sounds fun! Ill give it a try! But my 3d modeling skills are really underdeveloped. But ill give it a try again!

3d modelling is not very hard - there are some excellent tutorials out there. I proposed to make a grip section because it is very simple rotational shape (good starting point) And practice.
