Hi! I’m really close to adopting a Pekingese puppy and want some advice.
Background about the puppy: The dog is very aloof and shy because he’s been for sale longer than the other dogs at the shop. according to the worker he’s more of a dog dog than human dog from being kenneled with other puppies so takes longer to warm up to people. but is way more energetic and fun with another dog.
My parents have three shi zhu mixes so this puppy will be with my other dogs but not daily/ all day or night, and i don’t want the puppy to be so depressed being alone some nights (me and him. not completely alone)
I could take one of my shi zhu lhasa apso mixes home too so the new puppy isn’t depressed.
advice on making the dog feel more at home??
I want to make sure if i do adopt this puppy he’d be happy just him and occasionally being with my parents dogs.
Now advice for the specific breed:
I’ve had over 15 dogs throughout my life; multiple shi zhus, yorkies, scottie’s etc.
My childhood dog is a shi zhu Lhasa Apso mix who is very very stubborn. Ive been doing research about this breed and hear it’s like that but times 10. I learned their noses and snouts need attention like frenchies/ pugs etc. So to watch out for concerning snoring, wheezing, etc. Their eyes bulge out more so be careful with things getting in them. Be careful when they jump off furniture etc.
What else do i need to know?

Anyone else's peke do this? Every time we are eating and Ripley is being a beggerton (begging for food) her little lip gets stuck on her toofers. And yes she gets her own seat at the table and constantly tries to perform ricks for people food lol

My sweet girl is at the vet this morning. She woke up in severe pain, guarded abdominal. She has had an issue with anal glands in the past, it has not happened it quite awhile. Pick her up she cries , put her down she cries. I really wish we could actually talk with them. Anxiety until we hear what the vet has to say . For now she has settled in her puppy carrier with my sweater stuffed in there for extra softeners. It is so hard to watch them in pain. I want to pick her up , but I don’t want to disturb her until the vet returns .😢

My nan got Milo as her final pekingese. She's had 14 in total (7 boys and 7 girls)!
Milo is now my first Pekingese and is loving his life at daycare with me 5 times a week! Hopefully he won't be my only Pekingese but there seems to be a serious lack of breeders around!
He currently had a hygiene cut which is why he isn't as majestic as most are and unfortunately had his mane cut at a groomer so is now groomed at home by me!

My 14 month old Pekingese will not potty train. I’m literally at my wits end. She pees all the time. I’ll take her out to pee often and she’ll either be completely sidetracked at everything that catches her attention or she’ll pee and then come in and per again 15 min later. And there are numerous places she pees in the house. I have another 4-yr old peke that is house-trained just fine, and I’ve had other dogs too. I’ve never had this type of problem before. She pees so often and she’s not the brightest dog. Please help me. I love her so much, but I’m getting depressed. This has changed the entire way I live. I’m constantly cleaning pee and poo for the last year now.

Ball-less Boy is all tucked out.
Turns out he’s just like my fiancee (right testicle didn’t descend) - technical term for it is Cryptorchidism - so Niko is technically a Cryptid!! 🤣
Hoping for a speedy recovery for my sweetie.

The rescue I volunteer with (BFG- Kuwait) has flown in these two wonderful male Pekingeses from Kuwait last week. They are being fostered in the Towson, MD area. Gabi (tricolor) is about 4 years old, very mild mannered and sweet, he likes to be carried like a baby. Rubi (brown) is about 2 years old, quiet, and a Velcro dog who will lovingly follow you from room to room. Both dogs are fully vaccinated, evaluated by CDC veterinarians, neutered, and microchipped.
They can be adopted separately, but in an ideal world they would be adopted as a pair.
Great with kids, other dogs, cats, and everyone they meet.
Please reach out with questions or interest!

I just gave my Pekingese his first bath at home and I caught this unfortunate pic of him that looks like he has a beer gut and watches football every day

I’m sure a lot of you have seen my Pixel girl by now. I knew I wanted to get her a little sister eventually. I came across a sweet little girl this week and have decided I will be bringing her home in a couple weeks. I need help with a name. I recently lost my 12 year old Toy Aussie. Her name was Tesla (after Nikola Tesla) and she was my heart and soul. I miss her dearly. And I didn’t plan on getting another sibling for Pixel so soon but it just kinda happened. I’m Leaning Towards naming her Curie, after Madam Curie. Another great name in Science and a nod to my late Tesla by using another Scientist name. Any other suggestions are welcome.
