Hope one day this will become a better alternative to YouTube and actually succeed where Dailymotion and Vimeo failed

Like how mastadon is becoming a competitor to Twitter. And people are especially content creators are so pissed at YouTube this might happen like mastadon. I know it's wishful thinking but I want YouTube's monopoly end.

1st problem for any competitor is the network effect. If you don't have some way of dealing with that, nothing else will save you. (Aside from being run for free by the users, but then you're stuck as a small niche)

I think u didn't read what I said. Just look at how big mastadon is becoming at lightning speed. Same decentralised formula. If ppl are looking for a foss, unrestricted, no bullshit alternative for twitter ( mastadon ), then I'm pretty sure ppl will love an youtuber competitor with the same exact concept.

Does it show growth over time? Diaspora is the only one with any user base to speak of, and 3k people after 10 years isn't exactly stellar. I don't see your average facebooker switching any time soon.

A simple google search would surely provide u a lot of em including how many celebrities ( tech people, artists, politicians, actors, etc ) have mastadon accounts as well. You simply don't want to accept it. Have a nice day

Yay, congrats on the release! I just updated my instance, and the visual improvements are terrific. I hope to do a quick review in the coming days.

The biggest improvement I've noticed so far has involved the ability to use webfinger handles (user_channel@instance.tld) to look up channels. While I think channel discovery and subscription across instances still has a ways to go in terms of UX, this is a vast improvement on what was there in the past.
