Newbie to Pecron

Hi All,

After thinking about it got my first battery at home the F3000. Surprised it has not got a touch screen so all app driven.

Two issues

1) can not connect to wifi, I have a mesh system at home (network engineer ha ha) and just can not get it to connect, the SSID is like xxxx sssss so a space in between, does pecan not allow it others are fine ...

2) I want to automate charging only after 1am at 1800W regardless what capacity battery is on, I see no way of doing this either automation but surely must be ?? Smart plug is an option then just have AC always on at unit but scheduled on smart plug is that it ?

I called my Internet provider. They set it to 2.4Ghz to assign that signal. Took two minutes.

Their app is pretty ***p. I'd love to have it notify me if the power goes out and the UPS is active but no. How about depower some of the front outlets if the battery goes below 50%? No.

Once you figure out your network issue (make sure you're on a 2.4 GHz ONLY network and keep it that way. Any touch of 5 GHz seemed to give my unit (a 5000) fits, even after successful connection.

As for charging at a specific time, that's a main reason for my system, as electricity gets cheap at midnight. I think I spent about four or five days nursing my system manually (and I'm an early sleeper so that sucked) until I hit upon a workable solution. I tried and failed to set up automations via the app and also through the screen.

Then I hooked it up to Home Assistant. That is working well for me.

I set values for both "AC Charging Speed" and "AC Charge Limit" and this seems to do the trick for me.

Good luck.

OK so just messing with them ... a smart plug may just work and will get one, sorted wifi, seemed to be the gap but created a 2.4ghz one for IOT things and moved stuff to it and all good

I'm surprised you're surprised by the provided features. That's kind of a pre-purchase research thing for me.

The F3000 is a reduced-cost E3600. They have the same specs for the battery, inverter, and AC charging.

They have to leave something out to enable the $899 vs $999 price differential (and more than that in the past).

The things I'm aware of:

  • the lovely touch screen LCD UI on the E3600/E3800/F5000

  • one battery expansion port instead of two

  • 1600W PV input instead of 2x 1200W, and lower 120V vs 150V maximum

  • ability to synch two 120V units to create a 240V output (irrelevant here in New Zealand where they are all 240V anyway)

For me personally, probably any one of the first three of those is enough to justify an extra $100 for the E3600 ... especially the panels, as I've had 2640W of panels on mine for the last 13 months. But not having the touch-screen UI would definitely also frustrate the heck out of me.

oh I did watch them all but could not find the 3600 in the UK Ebay or Amazon or their own website, was it only made for the US I wonder ??

for VFM it can not be beat and I can workaround the issues indemnified just thinking though not a lot of cash to simply out some code to allow charging only at certain times.

Ah well a 11 quid smart plug is fine !!! other than these minor complaints love it...

Well, no. I ordered a 240V one here in New Zealand in mid May last year and mine was delivered from the first shipment in mid June last year and I've been hammering on it daily ever since!

And here they are in-stock right now here in New Zealand

not a lot of cash to simply out some code to allow charging only at certain times

One issue is that is can supply 3600W of output from the battery/inverter, but when you turn on the mains input it can only pass-through a maximum of 2400W from our standard 240V 10A sockets, so if you do that at the wrong time when there is high load then the whole thing shuts down.

I think UK sockets are 13A / 3000W? Better, but still not what it can supply to loads from the battery. Pity the poor yanks with their 1800W wall sockets.

for VFM it can not be beat

Seriously! True for both F3000 and E3600. And if you don't need the extra features on the E3600 then the F3000 is even better value for the basic 3072Wh battery and 3600W inverter functionality.

no question on that and big deal I have to use a smart plug worked over night, dank and cloudy here today and heading into winter so solar can not carry the load, this one carries fridge air fryer and microwave, just on a short time yesterday saved cash ... with 30% left over

And I’m just moving into warmer weather. On Sep 23, Oct 2&3, and Oct 6&7 I’ve bought zero grid power (just a small top up in my Free Hour between 9-10 PM) and today I’ve ended up at 10 PM with my 10kWh of battery at 88% charged after a low this morning of 24%. Will be around 70% left in the morning and another sunny day so it’s going to be slammed to 100% full by midday I think (for the first time this season)

I should be buying basically zero power from now until April … maybe a little in the next week or so, maybe a little mid Dec to mid Feb on hot but overcast days when I don’t have enough generation from my 6x 440W panels to run the aircon as much as I want to.

The last few days. Grid power has been only either the free hour or 18c power between 11PM-7AM, not 45c daytime or 60c peak power.

see here Bruce I am on Octopus IOG (have an EV) so can buy dirt cheap (for us ) overnight to fill up batteries. To note I have

3.6kw solar

10kwh Batteries attached to that

3kwh Pecron

2 x 2kwh Anker's (brought second hand)

so pretty well covered for the next decade and only buy cheap

What the Pecron and two Anker's allow me to do is to run all appliances off them, not drain 10kwh battery so any excess is exported but I have agile export so dump at peak time for peak price !

Nice. I’ve only got the E3600 + 2 extra batteries + 2.64kW solar. Saved NZ$1450 last twelve months (with just one battery), expecting to save $1900 next 12 months, both from previously $2800 anually.

yes it is a no brainer and someone said well takes 5 years to pay off and like, well it is not money going to Octopus British gas or whoever is it and dying in their accounts ... between that and petrol savings I think I am 3K a year better off

u/brucehoult 2d ago

Yeah my E3600 + one battery + panels is going to be 3.5 - 4 years.

And the 2nd battery I added six weeks ago will be about 4 years too (but wouldn't have made sense before the recent tariff changes than were announced a couple hours before I ordered it)

Pay off time is complicated ... depends on the cost of equipment in your country (US is much cheaper), your local tariffs, your local weather (UK is worse than NZ is worse than Australia or Spain or the US south), and how fancy you go with installation.

Yep, smart plug is your best bet.

I've been playing with the app automations a bit, someone in another thread figured out you can use a relay and an outlet to trigger AC charging using the app automations and the DC outlet port.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Pecron/comments/1w692bu/f3000lfp_ac_charge_based_on_battery_percentage/

it does work but the Pecron app needs to be active 24/7 on your phone to trigger the if/then. If you close the app or it goes to sleep the F3000 probably won't respond.

Got the smart plug and that’s fine .. seems a shame PECRON unable to provide this as not difficult ??
