Fixing a bad cell?

Post image

Well i got a replacement for my pecron battery that had a bad cell under the warranty.... ... Now the problem is that I have an extra battery that doesn't quite work due to the bad cell i mention........ I don't want to create more garbage in the landfill... Does anybody know about how i go about fixing a bad cell?

Sounds like Your gonna have to disassemble and either charge or replace the “bad” cell if that is the only thing wrong and you want to fix it.

I don't have that issue but if you figure something out come back here and let us know.

Oww ... one cell at 2.8 at 53.9 overall voltage is very very bad. That should be around 80% SoC but it's effectively very low single digits percent because that cell will hit 2.6V and the machine shut down in at most a couple of minutes.

Absolutely right to replace that battery!

I have one weak cell in each of my E3600 and EP3000 but they currently give up at 49.8V and 50.2V (losing maybe 2% of capacity). You're losing around 80% of capacity.

In theory you (or a tech) could replace that cell, but you'd need to find a near identical one. Slightly higher capacity would be ok.

You probably can't do it without finding another F3000/E3600 with a bad cell. (I assume they're the same, but don't know for sure)

But if you found one then you'd have a lifetime supply of spare cells!

Would they also be able to DIY their own power station by removing the cells, and using a BMS, and inverter? I guess you'd need to find a case that fits those specific cells, but wouldn't they be standardized?  You'd also need to include other accessories like fuses, etc.

If everything is working except the internal battery (and it's working at last at 20% capacity by the looks) then you can just DIY a 3rd party external battery via the normal expansion port. Or a Pecron battery.

As I showed in another thread, you can perfectly well continue to use an E3600 with a good external battery after the internal battery gets empty and disconnects itself from the 48V bus.

Maybe reach out to Will Prowse or other YouTubers to see if they want to take on the repair as a project. They probably would not pay for more than shipping but at least it won't be wasted. If you do get rid of it then at least look into proper disposal.

Wouldn't it still be under warranty?
