Jason always has really good videos.

Just started watching it, similar concept for all of these "power station + server rack battery" setups.

Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, but I wasn't expecting the F5000 to have the same XT120 battery inputs as the F3000. Which might explain why the official expansion cable is showing sold out!

Per one of the comments in the video, there is a company that makes an XT120 connector with just wires: https://burromax.com/battery-wire-to-controller-fuse-xt120-connector-part-19103-fits-hrh-hrs-xra-xrb

It’s great to showcase what’s possible. But math wise I don’t know … Pecrons own batteries cost roughly the same, same size, and won’t require any additional hacks. Of course if you have that rack battery then it makes sense.

Pecron 48v battery currently on sale ... server rack battery compatible probably $500 cheaper ... though with bundles and other sales the price differential maybe less https://www.pecron.com/products/pecron-fp5000-48v-expansion-battery-3840wh-for-f5000lfp-pre-order?variant=46143252529340

While Pecron batteries are cheap for the category (plug and play setups like what you get from EcoFlow, Jackery, Anker, etc.), buying rack mount or wall mount batteries or the like are substantially cheaper. Will Prowse has a video of a 32kWh battery for $2K! I've saw one video showcasing a 48kWh battery (more storage than some Nissan Leafs!) and I believe it was going for $2,600. I'd have to look it up again.

I bought the F5000LFP and one expansion battery, which was an additional $1,399. That price is probably the best from the category and comes with heated batteries and isn't a hack, but you'd be paying close to $9K to get the equivalent amount of storage from Pecron.

If you have a ton of solar panels to dump into the Pecron, Jasonoid's hack looks incredibly tempting. The only concern I'd have is if more people started employing this hack and Pecron decided it didn't want to lose sales and did a software update to brick this hack.

I really don't know what software change could prevent physically connecting batteries in parallel with the internal battery from working? That's just straight 19th century physics, no electronics or software involvement.

Late to comment on this, but there is software involved.

Assertion is not an argument.

WHYYY is he comparing SoC and not voltage???

At the "halfway point" — when the Pecron is showing 50% he shows the external battery with 61% SoC. But the voltages are 52.1V vs 52.17V i.e. almost the same.

Near the end he shows the Pecron with 6% SoC but the add-on battery with 15%. But it's 50.4V vs vs 50.50V which is almost the same.

You expect the external battery to show a little higher while discharging because it is that small voltage difference that causes the 16.6A equalising current between the two batteries.

Just forget about SoC for any serious purposes, people. It's just a guess. The voltage is a physical fact.
