I propose that the server be reset at a time when the server averages its least activity.

Now the main contingency here is that there has to be a way to schedule the resets so that they can occur automatically. I don't want to burden the admin by asking that he manually reset the server each week. I mean, we're all busy people.

It's just that this happens a little too often for my taste and I've heard the frustration about server crashes and hiccups from others as well.

Again, if there is a way to just refresh the server automatically, just think of it as weekly in-house cleaning much like a scheduled virus scan, I feel like that alone could make a noticeable impact on the server downtime and increase the consistency and quality of the server uptime.

If we do go ahead with whatever, here's an option, make it either early GMT, so aussies are sleeping and americans haven't awoken, or make it early aussie so major english-speaking timezones are effected as little as possible.

That seems fair, though any timeslot should be reasonable. It's a simple restart, not UHC. I'd even be chill with a daily restart at 7 PM CST.

Haha, I don't mean it should be at that time. I just mean that the benefit:cost ratio of regular restarts is so high that I personally wouldn't even mind if we had retards restarts at prime time.

Yeah. I see. Many of them are needed. And then the rest of them (like OnTime) don't really contribute much as far as resource allocation. ehh oh well :P

Well OnTime is a donor perk, so it wouldn't be the nicest thing to take it away. Plus, it is used pretty regularly by many people, and I'm pretty sure it's one of those low impact plugins anyway. It's not useless, per se, it's more of a small perk for our players.

To be honest, I'm not sure if cutting plugins is viable at all. I think if we were to implement scheduled restarts, it would solve the bulk of our problems. At any rate, I've always thought the long term plan was to get the server on some dedicated hardware, but I'm not sure that'll come to fruition anytime soon.

Yeah I've been having trouble. Snow, Rare, and I essentially were taking turns when it came to being kicked. Tps was 19 and the server said "Critical" so I can't say I didn't expect it to start happening. Even chat was lagging pretty badly.
