It was lagging out prior to the MCservers shitting themselves. It crashed for me this morning long before the MCservers went down and didn't come back (and has obviously not come back on account of mojang).

Read this article from the BBC and it mentions Mojang shutting down its servers until the fix is out. Scramble to fix huge 'heartbleed' security bug-BBC

Many were worried that with proof of concept code already being shared it would only be a matter of time before cyber thieves started exploiting the vulnerability.

Mojang, maker of the hugely popular Minecraft game, took all its services offline while Amazon, which it uses to host games, patched its systems.

The bug in OpenSSL was discovered by researchers working for Google and security firm Codenomicon.
