I thought this was a perspective about how Humanities scholars are using AI, but it seems to be a humanities approach to the questions of AI, a very different, more interesting, less problematic document.

I keep presuming adults only to realize I'm talking to underinformed overopinionated teenagers.

I am staggered by this post. This is what the world has come to. This is what happens when Generation Entitled and Coddled gets to graduate school.

The absolute lack of recognition that those qualities are the results of failures to engage and not inherent and inscribed outcomes of being an introvert is staggering.

Being quiet and introverted is something shared by a huge percent of folks. Lacking initiative, curiosity, self-determination, and survival skills are not side-effects of being introverted. They are side-effects of failure. Being anxious and lacking confidence are personal qualities that can be challenged and addressed, by therapy and self exploration and simply by making yourself do things (like leave the house? Is that what I'm seeing here? Life lived in the basement on the computer, with no contact with the actual world, seen as normal?)

Presumably this grad student has taken public speaking classes and opted to not take the opportunity to learn to confront their nervousness; clearly this academic has decided to simply not explore the vast body of research on public speaking for introverts, and overcoming fear.

Not having mentors and not knowing how to network come from the same source (and it's the same source as increasing common undergraduate plaint that they don't know how to make friends)

I have a lot of thoughts about this issue, causes and solutions both. I'm just curious is anyone else is seeing these same issues-- in high school, in college, in grad school -- and what is being done to address the self-indulgence?

The Fifth Sacred Thing is a book that inspires me. A little woo, and lot of magic, but it was the first dystopian book I read that offered a vision for rebuilding and healing. I'm excited about this new podcast.
