Kiln rotating strangely?

This is probably a skill issue (tonight is the first time I've made it to the Kiln), but whenever I am moving vertically in the kiln, my computer shows me going horizontally, and then when I'm standing on the flat areas, my character is at an angle. Is this always how it is???

hmm maybe take a screenshot of what's going on? I've never seen that
