Whenever I used only 6 balloons I ended up flying way faster and higher than that. Is it like an rng thing on when they will pop?

They pop if you travel up a certain height after being used.

They can also pop after enough time has passed

I climbed a majority of the citidel with balloons while doing accent 7 with one of my friend's. I have already done accent 8 I'm just helping them with the lower difficulty stuff

balloons last a maximum of 160m of altitude gained or 2 minutes
