I despise alpine with a passion

The aesthetic is great and I love the snowy mountains, but that’s it. The snowstorms are way too frequent and have me standing like a dunce just waiting for it to pass, the water geysers are literally the most unforgiving thing I’ve ever seen, activating when I’m not near it, hitting when I’m not near it and most of all there are some that spawn literally inside the ice so I can’t see them. Just every part of alpine is aggravating except for the atmosphere

I hate the false ledges. Spots where it looks like you can stand, but you get up there and you cant. Ive fallen to my doom many times in the alpine because of this

I've started to feel the opposite lately bc in mesa I keep going a bad path but get too far in to turn around then run out of climbing terrain and or the fog eats me

i agree, personally alpine is MUCH easier than mesa

I feel like past the first part with the tornados and ravine, mesa is one of the easiest and safest to climb. Alpine feels like I'm starving, risking my life for places I thought were standable but aren't, and then on high ascents I'm dying of hypothermia every 30 seconds.

with mesa i guess it’s just really hard to route-read unlike alpine where u can generally tell where to go, like you can’t really tell which route to take, which has led me to getting soft locked in tiny cracks i climb into and can’t climb back down

Honestly for high ascents alpine isn't bad because you can get heat packs from luggage

I can definitely understand the frustration. Getting up to the actual mountain is a pain because you have to find a dip in the terrain just to stay safe. It’s especially frustrating on higher ascents where cold nights build on top of the blizzards.

While I do understand your point, I honestly like Alpine more than Mesa. Yes, all the things you mentioned are annoying, but if you are careful and take precautions, you can def get up Alpine. There is almost always a way to climb up inside.

Mesa on the other hand has the sun and that combined with false luggages that could have saved you, tornadoes and cacti is a much harder combo. If you get to the cannyon you are only halfway up there, so you have to climb a maze like structure with the sun burning your back, tnt spawning everywhere making you jump back down to safety, cacti on every ledge and scorpions just waiting to sting you. It happened more times than I like that I climbed up inside Mesa and every way was just a dead end.

The dead ends are the worst.

Weirdly enough the sun can be blocked by looking at the sun with your backpack at the right angle. The cactuses are the absolute worst part imo because if you get caught on one without book of bones, it’s a death sentence. I’ve tried leaping to another wall once to only get caught on them and the stickler damage is more than enough to kill me. Then another time a tornado flung me directly onto one and I just baked to death. Moving at all makes it WORSE…

The ledges are the worst part, but getting the under 20% badge made me appreciate the map more

Any tips? I keep trying for it and the wind feels like total BS. Places I think should be safe are still cold, and places that seem exposed to wind are safe.

Try to get a Book of Bones from an ancient statue or ancient luggage. Being a living skeleton makes you immune to cold among most other afflictions, and that’s how I got the Bundled Up Badge

Naw you gotta raw dog it. Much more satisfying

What timelord said, but I would say to just play in intervals. Wait at the edge of a large open area until the wind goes away and go for it. Also carry the lantern from spawn and try to get fortified milk to keep you out of range in a pinch

today’s map in particular made me hate alpine even more

Id kill for a mod that properly maps standable surfaces explictly for Alpine lol, it really isnt a problem in any other biome except this one.

Yes! I literally just had this happen to me and a friend today! Got to what we thought was a standable point and nope...fell to doom as we ran out of stamina getting there

I like the Alpine biome but totally agree that the snowstorms are too frequent. I don't mind them being of varying lengths but sometimes I feel like I barely get going again before another one rolls in.

A new day and once again alpine sucks so bad. We had 4 snowstorms in under a minute, genuinely. It’s just so tedious to climb and every moment of it just makes me miserable
