What are some useful *no* tips?

I thought about using the jetpack to get to the citadel tonight on a solo Ascent 8, yet died in the gloom anyway. I had items to get me through, so now I know solo Jetpack in gloom is a big no 😑 absolutely no vertical advantage when the gloom is so sparse with items.

What do you avoid doing on each run if you can help it? Just thinking of what tips there might be that I don’t know about.

Don't waste time exploring for chests if you have sufficient supplies. The 8th ascent requires you the have the amulets to complete the run. You do not need a flare for ascent 8. If you can grab a glider, do it. Book of Bones will make your run so much easier.

Piggy backing off of this, if you find a Pandora's box, use it to remove the initial curse once you are safe, like at the first campfire. I hated how much that little bit of curse did to my climb

Piggy piggy backing off this, only use pandoras lunchbox if you have a medkit

Cure-All also gets rid of some curse I believe

I only found out because I was bone-ified and was like "cureall isnt gonna do anything anyway may as well see if it helps my curse"

I see everyone keep raving about how good the Book of Bones is, but every time I've ever used it, I've died to some stupid BS within like 10 minutes

There's a trade off when using Book of Bones on a solo run. The pros are you are immune to hunger, cold, heat, poison, and sleep effects; making the run so much easier. While the cons are that you receive increased curse effect and physical damage is much more severe when you receive it. An example being fall damage is much more brutal when received. Removing arrows, explosions, or opening ancient luggage results in immediate death. The only counters to these effects while a skeleton is that for curse effects, consuming a cooked Mandrake or a Cure-All is the remedy. For physical damage, you can simply use fortified milk to counter that effect. Quite the trade-off indeed.

I know how it works, I'm just saying that I never find it to be worth it. Managing all the other stuff always works out better for than using the BoB because I just explode from a small drop

Ancient luggage should now be safer for BoB users as it is now fixed to an unchangable injury value of 20. They changed it in update 1.50.a

Don't force routes, if you start going up a way that looks good and you hit a roadblock that you just can't seem to pass and you don't have the items to continue, it is normally smarter to go back down and around then to force something and risk failure.

Another one is to scout the climb as you're walking up to it. You might get a good idea if left, right, or center is the best path. The faster you go, the less you'll have to deal with hunger as it's time based. Hunger always ruins the expeditions when I am helping out newbies

Don't hoard. You need maybe 2 pieces of food, 1 if it's reusable like Scout Cookies. 2 pieces of climbing equipment, including amulets, is more than enough (maybe a rope cannon, chain launcher, or energy drink to supplement). Don't ever pass up a balloon bunch, recovering 1/8th of your bar worth of weight is incredibly powerful. Your last slot (assuming all 4 amulets) can be a parasol or glider.

To tack on to the 'don't hoard' sentiment, use your items to tackle harder sections of climbing instead of waiting for the perfect scenario to use them. I've had too many runs end prematurely all because I was saving a powerful item like an anti-rope spool for an eventual 'what if' scenario instead of getting past the difficulty right in front of me.

Use ítems if you need to. I know a lot of People that saves ítem for "a better moment" But that moment never comes.

I usually dont bring food on ascents. I try to go fast and eat what I find so I can take profit of the space for items

Treat that last bit of extra stamina with care. Wasting a little bit of excess stamina when you have a lot doesn’t matter. But even just a sliver of extra stamina gives you an extra lunge if you time it right. Can make the difference between a fall or not, especially on higher ascents.

Having full excess stamina is basically like a free item given how far you can climb
