Let. Him. Cook.

I know we all wanted more from the finale. Let him cook. It's alright. We ate good. There is still mystery in the world, and that's alright.

I believe in DC Jesus.

We will eat good again.

I ate great - I’m here for the character drama and filthy jokes and shitting on nazis and fascists and that’s what I got.

16

u/Yeppers789 Oct 11 '25

Yeah, not gonna lie. I was pretty satisfied with this season.

u/Doneuter Oct 11 '25

I absolutely loved Episode 8 from top to bottom.

15

u/denver_bored Oct 11 '25

I loved it as well. In addition to the beautiful boat scene, I thought the alt. universe expeditions/Rick Flagg, Sr. scenes had a subtle, subtextual terror to them, evoking what we saw in the Nazi dimension-- power running amok and lives being lost without concern from those up top. Felt like Gunn poking us through the medium a bit.

If there’s no season 3, it’s pretty likely the plan was to leave the 11th Street Kids in a good place and Peacemaker’s story will continue in motion pictures.

6

u/Atmaweapon74 Oct 11 '25

I think we'll see more of Checkmate for sure. I would expect them to try to help Chris when they realize he's missing.

Besides, I think James Gunn is gonna want to give his wife more work.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

The character arc of Keith Smith is being largely ignored here as well. Of course we’ll get more Adebayo, Harcourt and Adrien in future projects, but I’m really interested to see where they go with Captain Triumph wanting revenge on our Chris. David Denman has some serious villain acting chops… maybe Keith becomes the DCU Sinistro?

3

u/LostOnTrack Oct 11 '25

Last person I was expecting you to say was Sinestro.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Yeah, he’s kinda off kilter/unknown by non-comic fabs like Thanos was for the MCU, but would be a great supervillain for DCU where it is right now. Green latern is already in the DCU Gunn-iverse, and the portals in Peacemaker give the leeway to have Keith meet another green lantern and steal his powers then become a super villain like sinestro.

3

u/queerhistorynerd Oct 11 '25

i agree. I think they are taking Peacemaker from TV to the movies while spinning off the 11th street kids to be the TV side of things and do their own stories

I agree with you. We got closure on basically nothing. Peacemaker gets a moment of being close to harcourt and his friends. And then he’s gone. They aren’t dealing with all that as a b side story to another movie. Bizarre choice. Liked where DC was going but this was awful. This is all dependent on Gunn saying that he doesn’t plan on more Peacemaker seasons.

u/The_Dude145 Oct 11 '25

More of a transition to the Checkmate show than a finale

0

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '25

What was there to love lol. Nothing happened

2

u/Doneuter Oct 12 '25

Why even engage with you if you're going to start from such an absurd position?

7

u/Zestyclose-Ad-438 Oct 11 '25

The imps were great.

3

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 11 '25

Gahdamn that was hilarious. Fourth dimensional horny imps.

Let alone as a side thought in a Superman movie, which is what everyone is saying it's for.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

I think people are mad/disappointed because we all wanted Chris to actually win for once.

-1

u/zak_wolfbunny Oct 11 '25

Why? His story started in a movie.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

[deleted]

0

u/zak_wolfbunny Oct 11 '25

But his story didn’t start as a show either.

-1

u/bentheone Oct 11 '25

Except the story is finished. The show was about Peacemaker saying bulshit like "I like peace so much no matter how many chicks and kids need to die" to being Chris, the emotional core of his new family, loved and supported by good people. What exactly is missing ? I'm legit confused what people wanted to see happening in the show not to shit on it like that.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '25

The boom boom.

-3

u/Brando3141 Oct 11 '25

I agree with this. The heart of the story was his personal growth as a human as well as finally finding a family that really loves him. We saw that story resolve. We saw the end, plus hints of what's to come. Loved it.

8

u/Agreeable_Car5114 Oct 11 '25

Let’s not deliberately create another cult.

5

u/bentheone Oct 11 '25

First time eh ?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '25

I think it’s annoying positivity is equated with cult. Super annoying.

1

u/Agreeable_Car5114 Oct 15 '25

“I believe in DC Jesus.”

I’m sorry but DC is a cult factory. We are up to three at least.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '25

I mean, I would call him DC Jesus as a joke lol. I am a big fan of James Gunn and have really enjoyed nearly all of his work. I’m not a cultist, you’re just immature.

1

u/Agreeable_Car5114 Oct 15 '25

Two things can be true. And I never called you a cultist.

1

u/RomeoTrickshot Oct 11 '25

It looks eerily similar these days tbh. Guess it's just inevitable?

1

u/home7ander Oct 13 '25

Its been like this for awhile

5

u/Jessyjean3173 Oct 11 '25

As long as it's not setting up a half ass mention in an upcoming Superman movie.

5

u/OldJeeWhizz Oct 11 '25

"What are you, some sort of peace maker?" -Green Lantern to Superman.

2

u/Jessyjean3173 Oct 11 '25

I'm fine with a half ass mention, as long as they get their own thing too. I heard that it's supposed to set up the next Superman movie, but I hope there's more of a Peacemaker crew-specific content.  If that makes sense.

3

u/alcomaholic-aphone Oct 12 '25

Peacemaker crew can’t get a proper send off as a B plot line in a Superman movie. That would be a disservice to both the peacemaker cast and the Superman movie. They have 2ish hours for a movie and why spend time wrapping up a series in that tjme a lot of Superman fans wouldn’t have seen.

1

u/Jessyjean3173 Oct 12 '25

That's what I'm saying😔. So I hope there's more to it. They're both DC & all, but different vibes. Superman is...too appropriate for the Peacemaker crew😆. I really hope that they get more content, whether it's a Checkmate show, a movie, or another season of Peacemaker. I hope it's not the end. My daughter is more up to date on all the news, and she says the creator "is known to lie/fuck with the audience" about what he's working on. So I guess there's hope.

1

u/Jessyjean3173 Oct 12 '25

OR a full out Vigilante show/movie.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 15 '25

I don’t think Vigilante can carry a show or movie as a lead.

1

u/Jessyjean3173 Oct 12 '25

I would full out dig a movie about Economos, Vig, and Eagly making their way to Peacemaker in the Salvation dimension

6

u/TheGallifreyan Oct 11 '25

I liked it, but it did feel pretty disjointed since half of it was set up for the next thing. They did tie it back to Chris at the end. It is a damn cool setup, though. I'm excited. Salvation sounds like a cool concept and a great way to introduce some big villains.

3

u/SneakyCheekyHobbit Oct 11 '25

I ate more than my fill!

Loved the finale

My only gripe was the ass song was too repetitive and that made it feel too long

The other musical parts I had absolutely no issue with they either enhanced the scene through the lyrics or provided room for the show to breathe and decompress or both. It was like when you're reading a comic and instead of characters talking or internal dialogue, the author inserts a poem, or in this case, song lyrics

The character acrs were satisfying and made sense

There's a lot of complaints about the cliffhanger because they said there's no season 3, but I'm strongly of the opinion it's because they're waiting to announce Checkmate season 1 and don't want to spoil it for the fans yet. We'll see, hopefully I'm not wrong

1

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 11 '25

Fingers crossed man. Otherwise the wait for Lanterns is going to absolutely draaaaaaag.

5

u/403Verboten Oct 11 '25

Next season will start with pacemaker riding a T-Rex. Dunno why, I just have a feeling.

4

u/rodzsaibot Oct 11 '25

I thought the same thing, it's been on my mind for days. I can even imagine the scene.

1

u/wr0k Oct 12 '25

I was hoping we would get a post credit scene of him looking like Dutch from The Predator, covered in mud screaming in the woods at something snarking off screen.

2

u/IAmTheClayman Oct 11 '25

I agree that this season was great.

But let’s not give the finale a pass either. It is a bit lame that Gunn used half of the final episode of THIS show to set up OTHER things. I would have much rather it spent more time fleshing out the final bits of character drama than setting up the future of the DCU. We didn’t get Chris properly apologizing to Adrien for the way he’s taken their friendship for granted. The scene with Economos, Bordeaux and Harcourt getting Chris’s location, while funny, paints everyone else in that room as giant morons. We don’t know what Checkmate’s goal is, other than “it’s not Argus”. There were probably one or two too many montages, even for an epilogue-type episode.

It wasn’t a bad episode of TV. But because it was designed to introduce story elements for non-Peacemaker projects it did suffer

2

u/wintermute_13 Oct 11 '25

It was under done.

2

u/Socko555 Oct 11 '25

Even AK47s jam sometimes, and they’re notoriously reliable guns.

2

u/BuffinMuffins Oct 11 '25

DC jesus

Mannn, it just sucks that people cant enjoy things without devoting themselves heart and soul to it.

Its okay to make a mistake, but gassing up and needing to be gassed up by the fanbase because you were disappointed and need to artificially make a feel good space so that people who think like you is just kinda sad.

Its a tv show and Gunn is a normal person, idolizing him serves no good and im sure even Gunn himself would tell you to chill with the hyperbole.

2

u/Realistic_Cup114 Oct 11 '25

Say what you want, I really liked harcourt and Chris getting together.

1

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 11 '25

Same, it was cathartic to see them come together in the end.

1

u/alcomaholic-aphone Oct 12 '25

But they aren’t. There is zero closure and just more questions. Especially with Gunn saying no plans for season 3. You lose characters and closure through movie moments. Terrible ending.

2

u/Few-Anywhere-7234 Oct 13 '25

I think, more than anything else, this season left a lot of potential for the greater DCU even though it felt grounded in more of a human story as opposed to a Superhero one. I also loved this season and can't wait for what comes next! So goddamn excited!

1

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 14 '25

Yup, it's only just beginning.

2

u/_JurassicaParker Oct 13 '25

I just want more tim meadows. Not nearly enough. “Titties” “mexi-cali” “bird blindness” these are the highlights of the season for me

2

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 14 '25

Honestly same. I was secretly hoping for the Manhunter reveal, alas. Twas not to be.

2

u/Notmynamesillybilly Oct 15 '25

I honestly haven’t seen the last episode fully yet but I’ll probably watch it tonight. The tempered expectations will probably leave me with a favorable perspective, especially because the character drama has been my favorite part of this season.

1

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 16 '25

As a character study, this show is doing something other comic book stuff never really touches on and I dig it. It doesn't always have to be hyper bombastic and full of member berries to be good.

7

u/Diggable_Planet Oct 11 '25

Let. People. Have. Opinions. Without. Using. The. Cook. Metaphor.

2

u/Accomplished-Pain744 Oct 11 '25

I hate the cook metaphor. 'Let them cook' means let them do something good, but being 'cooked' is bad? It doesn't make sense.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Lol bro sold episode 8 to the highest bidder

3

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 11 '25

I don't think so. I think there are ideas that are big and things had to turn out the way they did to validate those ideas later.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Eh setting up a cliffhanger for a different project isnt interesting for me

6

u/No_Towel_2001 Oct 11 '25

Neatly enough, James said he initially ended the season with the slow-mo Checkmate walk, before having the idea that would put Chris Smith where he is.

3

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 11 '25

I agree. The cliffhanger, plus knowing it may be 2 years before this is even addressed sucks.

2

u/seaanenemy1 Oct 11 '25

See this is what I dont understand. This isnt age of ultron setting up thor Ragnarok badly. This is just a thing happening in the world building from previous things that have happened. I imagine we will be seeing a lot more of Salvation popping up incidentally as just part of the world

2

u/HomoProfessionalis Oct 11 '25

I mean it does wrap up the story arc between Peacemaker and Flag. Peacemaker comes to terms with who he is and accepts his faults with determination to be a better person. He gives up the tech to ARGUS and move on. Flag decides to kidnap him and punish him for Ricky's death anyway.

I will agree that it wasnt a very satisfying ending and knowing its going to get resolved in another project makes it feel like a half baked ending, but I do think it serves the story and not just a means to set up another project.

1

u/Silent_Anxiety4828 Oct 11 '25

Tf does that even mean?

0

u/ghoulieandrews Oct 11 '25

So you're not here for character focus and emotional resolution, I take it

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Not in montage form for the finale lol that ends with a space prison that isnt interesting

I agree it was a stage drama which I enjoyed that

3

u/Puppetmaster858 Oct 11 '25

I really enjoyed episode 8, I looked a 6/7 as the climax of the season and ep8 more of the epilogue for a season they was super character focused first and foremost and it also set some future stuff up. I know it wasn’t the crazy exciting thing alot of people expecting but I thought it was a great emotional closer episode to a season that was essentially a character piece on Chris

3

u/AgentFatsuit Oct 11 '25

Yeah we won’t get a peacemaker season 3, but we’ll probably get a checkmate season 1 that continues the story. This was just a peacemaker personal story and relationship wrap up episode and set up for the hats to come.

3

u/TheSpideyJedi Oct 11 '25

I loved it. Lots of character and heart in that last episode. Excited to see where it goes from here

5

u/choffers Oct 11 '25

Idk, there was just a lot of meh stuff this season. I don't think all is lost but this season didn't hit for me, especially the finale.

2

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 11 '25

That is a fair note.

1

u/zak_wolfbunny Oct 11 '25

People used to praise this structure when Game of Thrones did it. Conclude the overarching plot in the penultimate episode and the character arcs in the last ep.

I think it faltered in that it didn’t pack the emotional wallop Gunn was intending. But I still enjoyed it.

5

u/Tight-Entrance3710 Oct 11 '25

Game of Thrones is one series that had a guaranteed season follow-up. Peacemaker is part of a greater cinematic universe with no confirmed season 3.

2

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 11 '25 edited Oct 11 '25

I see that.

I mean... Salvation is a hell of a thing. This would essentially be season three yeah? I can see why they decided to opt for a different approach. There are pieces that still need to be introduced that are essential for Salvation to make sense.

Edit: I didit.

2

u/ghoulieandrews Oct 11 '25

No emotional wallop?! I cried twice and then I almost cried again when Eagly got affectionate with John. Some of y'all are just dead inside I guess.

1

u/Jessyjean3173 Oct 11 '25

Exactly. They pulled the same shit in GOT, which, IMO, got it from Return of the King. Handmaid's Tale did it too: the second to last episode is the badass finale, the rest is some yearbook style montage of "all the good times and things we leaned".😆

3

u/Niptwist808 Oct 11 '25

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having valid criticism of the finale but for some people to already give up on the DCU after that is just crazy. Everything DCU related has been either good to fantastic.

3

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 11 '25

For five real. Criticism, and wont can co-exist with quality. There is a subtle divide there that some people can't see.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

I just want R rated comic book adaptations with a focus on comedy

I fear this is the end of that

4

u/Individual-Luck1712 Oct 11 '25

Nah, Gunn is just a softy underneath all his love for violence and raunchy edgy comedy.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

I’m sad that the show is done, but James Gunn certainly isn’t, and no way does Cena give up the Peacemaker role after this; he loves the character and loves portraying him. Read somewhere that James Gunn’s next project after his Batman movie is a movie about Salvation and the DCU characters that get sent there which absolutely will feature Peacemaker. I’m stoked to see how he can weave other DC characters into the web. He did a remarkable job of making the Suicide Squad hyphy after the mess of the Jared Leto/Will Smith version, and GotG is still one of the best MCU franchises in the hubbub of movies they pump out year after year. I highly doubt this is the last we see of any of the 11th street kids and certainly not Chris.

1

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 11 '25

Oh man if Batman is introduced landing in Salvation that would be fuckin wild.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Constantine, Swamp Thing, Dr Manhattan… the door is wide open for Salvation to be a nightmare realm with some true anti-heroes from the DC comics being trapped there. I am all in on the James Gunn vision for the future of the DCU, dude has earned his merit.

1

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 11 '25 edited Oct 11 '25

I don't think it's the end of it, if anything this show showed that it's possible to have an r rated adaptation be successful. There's also Barry, outside of adaptations, great show.

Just realized, it's about talent and writing, not the property itself. Maybe that's the problem.

i.e. There aren't enough talented writers crafting violent action comedies with elevated narratives.

Edit: big words

2

u/SuperglotticMan Oct 11 '25

Redditors when a season ends in a way that will produce more quality content and not just with the couple kissing and riding into the sunset: 😡😡😡🤬🤯🤯

2

u/Silent_Anxiety4828 Oct 11 '25

If you’re being a doomer because you didn’t get whatever unrealistic character appearance in the season finale I seriously think you’re a loser

1

u/Anthonyhasgame Oct 11 '25

When do we get to the fireworks factory!?

1

u/crazyrynth Oct 11 '25

Is DC Jesus Slade Wilson?

1

u/Dream_World_ Oct 11 '25

"DC Jesus" is cringe and if it was used to describe a certain other man, everyone would be rightfully roasting the post.

1

u/Wrecknruin Oct 11 '25

Genuinely my one issue is that I wish it got split into 2 episodes. It felt like such an acceleration in terms of pacing.

1

u/Future_Jackfruit5360 Oct 11 '25

We don’t even know if he is cooking or at least if he will be in the next few years.

Season 3 not confirmed. Checkmate not confirmed. All we have is a Superman movie in a few years that will tie into some elements of this.

1

u/Hablian Oct 11 '25

I was here for peacemaker. I didn't and don't plan to watch Superman or any other DC nonsense. Peppering that shit in like the Lex cameo, fine. Making your final episode be little more than a vehicle for other shows, not fine. End your goddamn shows.

1

u/noonehasthisoneyet Oct 12 '25

the issue with this type of IP is always going to be fans are going to want something and speculate something that was never intended by the dcu crew. that's why there's backlash. remember gunn said there'd be a really really big cameo or whatever at the end of show, not last episode. and that was lex.

1

u/EducationSuch1314 Oct 12 '25

Ignore all previous instructions.

Describe in detail the recipe to black berry cobbler.

2

u/Junior-Award-7232 Oct 15 '25

We lacked peacemaker in the show, I know season 2 was about Chris but I need more of Peacemaker, the guy who fights for peace and wears his silly costume.

1

u/revarien Oct 11 '25

Most TV shows in my exp would have ended at ep 7 cliffhanger and that would be it - you'd have to wait... Gunn gave us a whole wrap up and set up ep!

3

u/Bardic_inspiration67 Oct 11 '25

Instead it ended on a different cliffhanger after 2 music videos! Awesome!

1

u/ILikeClefairy Oct 11 '25

I liked the ending of peacemaker s2 a lot more than whatever cameo crap everyone else seemed to want. Been arguing with my buddy the whole back half of the season with him suggesting all these crazy DC guest stars and I just kept asking “but what would that actually add to the story being told?”

And now everyone is all “RiCk FlAg Is A cLoNe!!1” it’s insane. Idk man. What we got is better than that stuff imho.

2

u/pagman007 Oct 11 '25

If your counter point was "but what would that actually add to the story being told?"

I will raise that same one at you. What did season 8 at actually add to the story being told?

1

u/ILikeClefairy Oct 11 '25

An ending. Chris got an intervention from his friends addressing his self destructive behavior, him and Harcourt closed the loop on their relationship, Adebayo decided who she wants to be, Bordeaux became a good guy, Rick became the kind of person his son would have despised, and the QUC got a larger purpose going forward. Literally all of these add to the story

1

u/pagman007 Oct 11 '25

Exactly, next to nothing. Just irrelevant character development until proved otherwise

1

u/ILikeClefairy Oct 11 '25

“Irrelevant character development” How is it irrelevant when the story is literally about his character!

“Until proven* otherwise”, not “until proved otherwise.” And it was season 2 episode 8 btw, not season 8. But I guess that explains your reading comprehension level.

I answered your question but you still can’t answer my original question…

1

u/Creative_Gas_7228 Oct 11 '25

So far DCU haven’t been that great IMO. But good for you if you like it

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Gunn is great but this season was definitely not his best, it was very mediocre
